The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of derivative instruments, derivative accounting and the broader derivatives lifecycle, along with hands-on experience with hedge accounting under ASC 815 and/or IFRS 9.

This person will work closely with Product, Engineering, Valuation, Accounting and client-facing teams to translate complex derivative accounting requirements into scalable product functionality.

Responsibilities:
  • Help design and build end-to-end derivatives capabilities across the trade and accounting lifecycle.
  • Translate derivative accounting requirements into product requirements, business rules, workflows, calculations and acceptance criteria for engineering teams.
  • Define accounting treatment and journal-entry logic for derivative instruments across initial recognition, periodic valuation, accruals, settlements, terminations and other lifecycle events.
  • Help design accounting functionality for instruments including interest-rate swaps, cross-currency swaps, FX forwards and NDFs, futures, options, caps/floors, swaptions and other derivative products.
  • Partner with valuation teams to ensure appropriate integration between derivative valuations, market data, cash flows and accounting outputs.
  • Help define accounting treatment for realized and unrealized gains/losses, accruals, settlements, premiums, financing components and other derivative-related accounting events.
  • Help design and build hedge accounting functionality, including hedge designation, documentation, effectiveness testing, ongoing maintenance, designation and termination.
  • Define product requirements for fair value hedges, cash flow hedges and net investment hedges.
  • Help develop functionality for hedge-accounting-specific events including OCI recognition and reclassification, hedge ineffectiveness, fair value hedge basis adjustments and amortization.
  • Help define requirements for hedge effectiveness methodologies including regression, dollar-offset, hypothetical derivative and critical-terms matching.
  • Help build downstream reporting, disclosures, audit support and accounting controls associated with derivatives.
  • Work directly with clients and internal subject-matter experts to understand complex derivatives use cases and translate them into scalable product capabilities.
  • Partner closely with Engineering throughout the development lifecycle, including solution design, testing, validation and release.

Requirements:
  • Approximately 8+ years of experience in derivatives accounting, financial instruments, treasury, capital markets, accounting advisory or a related area.
  • Strong understanding of derivative instruments and their accounting treatment.
  • Experience with the accounting lifecycle of derivatives, including valuation changes, accruals, settlements, terminations and journal entries.
  • Strong understanding of instruments such as interest-rate swaps, cross-currency swaps, FX forwards/NDFs, futures and options.
  • Hedge accounting experience under ASC 815 and/or IFRS 9 is required.
  • Experience with fair value hedges and cash flow hedges; net investment hedge experience is a plus.
  • Experience with hedge documentation and effectiveness assessment methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of the relationship between derivative valuation, economics, cash flows and accounting outcomes.
  • Ability to translate complex accounting guidance into clear business rules, system requirements and test scenarios.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work through complex transactional accounting scenarios.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with accountants, engineers, valuation specialists, quantitative teams and clients.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
