In this role, you’ll be the primary bridge between our legacy on-premises SQL Server footprint and our modern Microsoft Fabric data estate. Your immediate mandate is threefold: actively support the Fabric Data Platform implementation team, engineer a standardized, streamlined process for handling enterprise data requests, and help define the core service offerings of the newly formed Data Operations group. You’ll design the hybrid database architectures that connect our existing systems to the cloud, as well as take ownership of the cloud-based SQL services tailored for enterprise data warehousing. The ideal candidate is a rigorous systems thinker who deeply understands enterprise data security, excels at performance tuning, and is passionate about building repeatable operational processes from the ground up.

Responsibilities are, but not limited to

  • Operations Team Establishment:Help define the core service catalog and operational SLA standards for the new Data Operations team. Design, document, and implement a standardized, repeatable intake process for all enterprise data requests.
  • Data Management & Integration:Ensure all data is efficiently stored, highly accessible, and cleanly integrated from various source systems into the Fabric environment, preparing it for downstream analytics and AI workloads.
  • Connectivity & Client Tooling:Manage the setup, configuration, and maintenance of all connections to diverse data sources. Configure and support client tools required for secure enterprise data access.
  • Performance Tuning & Monitoring:Continuously monitor system health and database performance. Proactively troubleshoot bottlenecks, optimize complex queries, manage indexing strategies, and allocate computing resources efficiently within the cloud environment.
  • Security & Access Control:Implement and govern strict access controls, row-level security, and data masking protocols to protect sensitive information and ensure compliance across both on-prem and Fabric environments.
  • Disaster Recovery & Continuity:Plan, implement, and rigorously test data backup, retention, and disaster recovery strategies to guarantee business continuity and data integrity.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate must:

  • Have a bachelor’s degree in computer science, data engineering, mathematics, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Have 7+ years of experience as a Database Administrator in complex, enterprise-scale environments.
  • Possess deep, authoritative expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (on premises) and extensive experience migrating or connecting legacy databases to cloud environments.
  • Have hands-on experience with modern cloud data platforms, specifically Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL, or similar cloud-based data warehousing solutions.
  • Be strongly proficient in database performance tuning, query optimization, and resource management.
  • Have proven experience establishing ITIL or similar operational processes, including designing intake workflows for data requests or incident management.
  • Possess a solid understanding of data integration patterns, ETL/ELT processes, and enterprise security standards (IAM, RBAC).
  • Be a Process Architect: Doesn’t just solve the immediate ticket; look for ways to build a standardized process so the issue never happens again.
  • Be a “Stable Core”: Bring a methodical, highly disciplined approach to database management, ensuring the infrastructure remains rock-solid as the business scales.
  • Be a Collaborative Builder: Eager to help build a new Data Operations team from scratch, comfortable defining new core offerings rather than just inheriting an existing playbook.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
