ABOUT OUR COMPANY:
The crushing weight of debt is something that we believe holds people back from reaching their dreams and making a splash in the world. So in 2013, after seeing our friends and family struggle with student loans, we created Splash Financial.

Over the years, our mission has expanded to include helping people with other forms of debt - such as refinancing credit cards, which are at all time highs in the US. And we’ve been able to refinance $6+ Billion in loans through our network of Splash, powered credit union and bank partners who leverage our marketplace and automated loan processing technology. And we’ve raised over $70 million from investors like partners of DST Global, Citi Ventures, TruStage Ventures, Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures, Detroit Venture Partners, and more.

But at our core, we’re still that little company from Cleveland with a big dream: to make people more powerful than their debt and we’re just getting started..

ABOUT OUR WORKPLACE:

Splash is remote-first, and proud of it.

We spend our days simplifying financial products and getting them into the hands of people who need them most. Right now, we’re focused on building financial technologies that fundamentally transform how the industry lends.

Although Splash has been around since 2013, we still operate like a startup — fast-paced, nimble, and full of heart. We’re good people who care deeply about doing meaningful work and we approach challenges with creativity, passion, and urgency.

And to hire the best, we provide the best: great health insurance, competitive salaries, and unique benefits like quarterly meet-ups and access to engagement tools that keep us connected — even from afar.

At Splash, everything we do is guided by our values:

Own It – We take full accountability and follow through on commitments.

Raise the Bar – We move fast, innovate faster, and push through barriers.

Say the Hard Thing – We speak up with honesty, respect, and a desire to solve problems and make things better.

Elevate Each Other – We win as a team by lifting each other up.

These values show up in how we work and how we connect — whether we’re collaborating on big projects or bonding over everyday moments. Yes, we even have Slack channels for #kids-and-pets and #food because we believe being human makes us better teammates.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Splash Financial is seeking a Data Scientist with strong programming skills in Python and experience creating complex algorithm models.

The ideal candidate is tenacious, proactive, and takes ownership of their deliverables. They constantly seek improvement, set high standards for data quality and analysis, and troubleshoot issues methodically using various data science tools. They write thoughtful designs and documentation, hold themselves and others accountable, and provide and receive feedback with compassionate candor. Collaboration and a constructive spirit are essential, as we value directness and candor but do not tolerate unconstructive negativity. We are solution builders, and our culture is critical to our success.

Join our team that values growth, flexibility, and work/life balance! Mentor others and be mentored, ideate new projects, take ownership, and execute.

WHAT YOU’LL DO AT SPLASH:

  • Analyze and interpret complex datasets to generate clear, actionable insights that inform business and product decisions.
  • Design, build, and deploy machine learning models that enhance underwriting, risk management, customer experience, and other core fintech functions.
  • Write clean, efficient Python code for data analysis and model development.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand their data needs.
  • Provide constructive feedback on data analyses and model implementations.
  • Work within an OKR-driven organization with a clear mission.
  • Participate actively in our highly collaborative, fully remote culture.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO SPLASH:

  • At least 3–5+ years in data science, machine learning, or a closely related field, ideally in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering). PhD-level research or industry experience, especially with a hypothesis-driven problem-solving approach, is highly valued.
  • Proficiency in Python for data analysis, modeling, and production-level code.
  • Experience with classical machine learning and a solid understanding of statistical modeling, feature engineering, and model evaluation techniques.
  • High candor, providing and accepting constructive feedback graciously.
  • Understanding that there can be multiple correct solutions, with a willingness to disagree and commit.
  • Experience in unsecured lending and installment loan industries is a big plus.

COMPENSATION:

The base salary range for this role is $150,000 to $200,000 annually, based on market data and internal compensation practices. This role may also be eligible for a bonus component tied to individual and company performance. Final compensation will be determined by factors such as location, experience, and skill level.

  • Flexible PTO + 9 company holidays
  • Equity: Share in our start-up success
  • Comprehensive and affordable insurance benefits
  • Paid parental leave for both caregivers
  • Essential equipment to get the job done

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
