The Role:
We are seeking a talented, enthusiastic, and detail-focused Senior Data Engineer to join our Finance BI & Systems team. In this pivotal role, you will take on significant data challenges, designing, building, and optimizing the data infrastructure that powers our financial reporting and automation. You will manage our Snowflake data warehouse and develop robust, scalable ETL/ELT pipelines. This role is perfect for someone passionate about data, with a strong engineering mindset, and a keen interest in applying these skills within the financial domain to drive efficiency and insight.
What you’ll do:
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable and reliable data pipelines (ETL/ELT) to ingest, process, and transform financial data from various sources into our Snowflake data warehouse.
- Develop and optimize data models within Snowflake to support financial reporting, business intelligence, forecasting, and advanced analytics needs.
- Act as a subject matter expert for Snowflake within the Finance team
- Collaborate closely with Finance stakeholders (including FP&A, Accounting, and Strategic Finance), BI analysts, and other engineering teams to understand data requirements and deliver high-quality data solutions.
- Build and support foundational data sets and data products that empower self-service analytics and reporting for the Finance team.
- Implement and enforce data governance policies and best practices to ensure data quality, integrity, security, and compliance.
- Write clear, maintainable code and comprehensive documentation for data pipelines and processes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues in a timely manner, ensuring minimal disruption to financial operations.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of our data engineering standards, tools, and processes.
- Operate effectively as part of a team while also demonstrating the ability to work independently, managing relationships, deliverables, and expectations with your business partners.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills, being personable, approachable, and able to connect effectively with individuals across the team and throughout the business.
- Remain detail-oriented while working across a wide variety of projects.
What you’ll need:
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering, with a focus on building and maintaining data warehouses and ETL/ELT pipelines.
- Proficiency in core data engineering technologies, including:
- Data Warehousing: Snowflake (primary), experience with PostgreSQL.
- Programming/Scripting: Python, SQL.
- ETL/ELT & Orchestration: Airflow, dbt, and experience with tools like MuleSoft, Fivetran, or similar.
- Cloud Platforms: AWS.
- Version Control/CI/CD: GitLab.
- Broad proficiency in relational database platforms and significant experience with cloud data warehouse platforms such as Snowflake, and familiarity with others like Redshift, or Google BigQuery
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capability to simplify complex issues into actionable plans.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, particularly within a finance context.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, agile environment.
- A proactive and detail-oriented approach to your work.
Strong Plus:
- Experience working directly with financial data (e.g., general ledger, financial planning, transactions).
- Experience deploying resources using Infrastructure as Code - IaC tools (i.e. Terraform)
- Familiarity with Finance ERP systems (e.g., Workday, NetSuite) and Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) tools (e.g., TM1/Planning Analytics).
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
- Experience in the Fintech or banking industry.
