Why we're hiring this role

Zip is at an exciting inflection point. As we expand beyond our core BNPL product into new financial products, the Data Analytics team is looking for a Senior Data Analyst II to be the senior analytics voice for this growth frontier.

You'll partner with senior leaders across Product, Finance, Risk, and Operations to build the analytical foundations that will define how Zip evaluates, launches, and scales new product categories. You'll lead complex, high-impact analytical initiatives, from helping size market opportunity and measuring early product-market fit, to understanding customer eligibility, adoption, and retention across our expanding product suite.

This is a rare opportunity to shape analytics from the ground up for products that don't yet have established playbooks, where your work will directly influence strategic investment decisions and product direction.

Start your adventure with Zip

As a Senior Data Analyst II working with the business, you'll own the analytics that power Zip's most strategically important growth bets. You'll be the primary analytical partner for teams building new Zip products, helping them understand customer behavior, product performance and financial outcomes at each stage of the product lifecycle, from pre-launch through scaled adoption.

You'll operate in a highly ambiguous environment where the right questions are still being defined. You'll bring structure and rigor to that ambiguity, translating incomplete or conflicting signals into clear recommendations that guide product strategy, risk appetite, and go to market decisions.

Alongside delivering analysis, you'll build the scalable data models and shared metrics that will serve as the authoritative foundation for new product analytics as the initiative grows.

Interesting problems you’ll get to solve

  • Lead end to end analytics for Zip's new product lines from opportunity sizing and launch readiness through post-launch performance and iteration.
  • Partner with Product, Risk and Finance leaders to define success metrics, build reporting frameworks and create analytical infrastructure for products that are new to Zip's portfolio.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the customer funnel and lifecycle for new financial products, including eligibility, application, approval, repayment and retention.  Identify the levers that drive healthy unit economics.
  • Analyze customer overlap, cross product adoption, and portfolio diversification to assess how new product verticals complement or expand Zip's existing BNPL customer base.
  • Build market sizing, segmentation, and opportunity analyses that inform where and how Zip should invest in new product growth.
  • Design, implement, and govern scalable analytics frameworks,  including reusable data models, shared metrics, and analytical methodologies,  purpose-built for new product categories where definitions must be established from scratch.
  • Develop advanced analyses integrating behavioral, financial, and risk data to provide holistic, forward-looking views of product health and customer outcomes.
  • Set and champion best practices for dbt data modeling, SQL performance, and analytical code quality as the new product analytics foundation is established.
  • Advise VP and executive-level stakeholders by synthesizing complex analysis into concise narratives connecting insights to product strategy, financial impact, risk trade-offs and growth opportunity.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment on metrics, definitions, and analytical approaches across Product, Finance, Risk, and Operations teams working on new products while escalating material decisions to leadership
  • Raise the analytical bar across the team through mentorship, knowledge sharing, and thoughtful review of analytical approaches and outputs.

What you’ll bring to the team

  • 8+ years of experience in data analytics, product analytics, business intelligence or a related analytical discipline, including experience in highly complex or ambiguous analytical environments.
  • Deep SQL expertise and demonstrated experience designing efficient analytical solutions across large and complex datasets.
  • Advanced experience with dbt and data modeling, including building scalable, reusable data models and trusted analytical foundations.
  • Advanced experience with Tableau or comparable BI platforms, and experience developing scalable reporting and visualization solutions.
  • Experience in fintech, consumer lending, or financial services analytics - ok with an understanding of customer credit, repayment behavior, and product risk dynamics is highly valued.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex, ambiguous analytical initiatives from problem definition through analysis, recommendation, and business impact, ideally including new product launches or 0-to-1 analytics buildouts.
  • Experience partnering with senior leaders and influencing strategic decisions through clear, evidence-based analytical recommendations.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to connect product analytics to broader business drivers, including revenue, unit economics, customer retention, and risk across a diversified product portfolio.
  • Experience establishing analytical standards, shared metrics or reusable frameworks that improve consistency and scalability across teams.
  • Experience applying AI-enabled tools and emerging technologies to analytics workflows, automation or self-service capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor other analysts, elevate analytical rigor and contribute to stronger technical and problem-solving practices across a team.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
