Job Description

Join the legal and compliance department of Newmark, one of the industry's leading global commercial real estate services firms, to provide legal support and problem-solving to the Company's U.S.-based managers and real estate professionals. Responsibilities include drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and other transactional documents customary for a commercial real estate services firm.

 

Responsibilities

Essential Job Duties

  • Draft and negotiate agreements, including engagement agreements for appraisal, property management, and project management, as well as other legal instruments to support and protect the Company's interests.
  • Provide legal counsel and guidance to managers and real estate professionals relating to the Company's business activities.
  • Identify and analyze legal issues with an understanding of how to appropriately balance risk with the Company's ability to pursue its business interests.
  • Respond promptly to the business with efficient and high-quality legal service.
  • Provide strategic advice to business leaders and field operations teams.
  • Engage with opposing counsel and external clients to negotiate transactions, while maintaining the Company's client-service philosophy.
Qualifications

Skills, Education and Experience

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) and active membership in good standing with the New York Bar, with a minimum of five years of experience practicing law.
  • Substantial experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
  • Prior experience in areas relevant to the Company's business such as appraisal, property management, or project management law (including on a multi-jurisdictional basis), or other commercial real estate services is a plus.
  • Excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills.
  • Strong, practical decision-making and leadership skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to interact effectively with the Company's executives, professionals, staff, and other employees, as well as with legal colleagues and outside counsel.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex business documents.
  • Excellent drafting skills.
  • Strong ability to solve problems and navigate a variety of options in complex situations.
  • Ability to identify and respond effectively to sensitive business issues.
  • Intermediate proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Comfort and interest in integrating the use of AI into legal work and processes.

 

Salary:

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $190,000 to $225,000 annually. The actual base salary will be determined on an individualized basis taking into account a wide range of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, education, and, where applicable, licenses or certifications held. In addition to base salary and a competitive benefits package (including health, vision, and dental insurance, paid time off and a 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching), this position may be eligible for additional types of compensation including discretionary bonuses and other short- and long-term incentives (e.g., deferred cash, equity, etc.).

 

Working Conditions:

Normal working conditions with the absence of disagreeable elements. In-office preferred; open to hybrid or remote.
