The opportunity

Altruist is entering a transformative phase of growth, and we’re looking for a Senior Communications Manager to help propel us into our next chapter. Reporting to the VP of Marketing, this role will focus on executive communications—amplifying the voice and visibility of Altruist’s C-suite through thought leadership, media engagement, and industry presence. You’ll also lead key external communications initiatives that support Altruist’s broader narrative across earned, owned, and shared channels.

Your impact

  • Build and lead an integrated communications strategy that positions Altruist as a category-defining brand.
  • Establish and expand the executive bench’s influence across owned and earned media—identifying, securing, and executing a pipeline of high-impact speaking and thought leadership opportunities that share Altruist’s story, grow community, and build trust with key audiences.
  • Develop Altruist’s corporate messaging architecture and produce high-impact written materials—including press releases, messaging frameworks, media Q&As, bylines, and other core content—that bring our narrative to life in a differentiated and consistent way.
  • Grow Altruist’s presence across LinkedIn, Instagram, Reddit, and other key platforms by partnering with the Social Media team to align on content strategy, amplify executive and brand storytelling, and uncover new opportunities to engage and expand our audience.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with key media, particularly in business, tech, and fintech, to secure high-quality earned coverage.
  • Oversee our PR agency of record, including day-to-day coordination, strategic planning, initiative delivery, budget management, and performance tracking.

What you bring

  • Experience - 7–8+ years of experience in public relations or communications, ideally within fintech, SaaS, or financial services. You’ve worked in-house or at an agency and know how to translate strategy into impactful execution.
    • Strong experience developing and executing executive visibility programs—including thought leadership, speaking opportunities, and media placement—with a clear understanding of how to amplify executive voices across social and digital platforms, especially LinkedIn.
    • Strong storytelling and content development skills, with the ability to write and edit across formats—press releases, Q&As, bylines, social copy, and internal messaging.
    • Experienced in managing communications within regulated industries, with the discretion to navigate sensitive topics and the confidence to engage with media—particularly across business, tech, and fintech outlets—while supporting spokespeople and managing press interactions.
  • Education - Ideally looking for a B.A. / B.S. degree in relevant fields such as Marketing, Business Administration, Communications, Advertising, etc.
  • Technical aptitude - You’re technologically savvy and can easily get up to speed on modern tech stacks
  • Ownership - The pride you put into every aspect of your work is unparalleled and undeniable.
  • Superb communication - Intentional dialogue is a superpower. You listen as well as you share your perspective with others.
  • Resilience - We’re inspired by your unwavering determination to achieve success, no matter the adversity you face along the way.
  • Assurance - Your confidence is brilliant, yet ego-less. You possess a strong knowledge base, the ability to discover the unknown, and are open to differing perspectives.
  • Creative problem solving - Identifying the problem is simply not enough. You’re instinctually creative with your approach in finding solutions to roadblocks.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
