Senior Combat Designer (Contract) 


Bluepoint Games is seeking a SENIOR COMBAT DESIGNER to join our team. 


Work alongside Animation, Character Artists, Vis Dev, Level Design, Engineers, etc. to design enemy- and boss-type characters and refine engaging combat systems and mechanics. Applicants are expected to be able to confidently work both independently and collaborate with all stakeholders, while bringing their experience and perspectives to elevate the team and our processes as we strive to deliver our next great title. 


 
 

Responsibilities 

  • Create high-level character design intent, combat flow plans, and respective systems 

  • Focus on character designs and mechanics from concept to implementation 

  • Tune key aspects of the game, including AI gameplay, character balance, and controls 

  • Create and manage state machines and logic-scripting systems 

  • Collaborate with code and art teams to refine new tools, features, and processes 

  • Work alongside level designers to build relationships between gameplay elements 


 
 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in combat design, with at least one shipped title (excluding academic projects) 

  • Experience using both text-based and GUI-based logic-scripting environments 

  • Solid understanding of combat systems and mechanics for 3rd-person melee action experiences 

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to convey abstract concepts with other members of the team 

  • Detail-oriented, thorough, and proactive can-do approach to challenges 




The ideal candidate shall also have: 

  • Intermediate knowledge of Maya or other major 3D programs 

  • Animation knowledge to collaborate with artists for combat tuning 

  • Solid understanding of game workflows and pipelines 

  • Extensive knowledge of relevant products and various gameplay genres/trends 

  • Desire to learn new techniques and technologies 

  • Desire to mentor and share experience/knowledge with others
