Overview

Microsoft Silicon Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and delivering a trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide and we are looking for passionate, high-energy engineers to help achieve that mission.

We are looking for an experienced cloud technology professional to join the Silicon Cloud Team, providing subject matter expertise on cloud architecture, solutions and security. The Senior Cloud Solution Architect will design and implement advanced and secure cloud solutions, impacting hybrid cloud systems around the globe, while collaborating with a dedicated group of cloud experts embedded within the Microsoft Silicon engineering organization. This role will also be responsible for embedding security best practices into architecture designs, ensuring compliance with corporate security standards, driving secure-by-design principles, and mitigating risks across cloud platforms.

Responsibilities
  • Design Azure cloud and hybrid architectures for the organization: scalable, secure, resilient, cost-efficient solutions across core Azure domains, translating business and technical requirements into concrete, buildable designs.
  • Build security into your architectures, using threat modeling to identify risks and mitigations up front, applying secure design patterns, identity and access controls, data protection, and validating designs with Azure-native tooling (Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Microsoft Sentinel, Azure Security Center).
  • Establish and document cloud architecture and security standards, reference architectures, and secure design patterns, turning your design work into authoritative guidance that ensure consistency while optimizing for performance, security, and cost.
  • Drive adoption of standards and guardrails through influence, setting the patterns and enablement that make the secure, well-architected choice the default across engineering teams, and enforcing them through policy-as-code with Azure Policy.
  • Serve as the authoritative advisor on cloud architecture and security: conduct design reviews, resolve risk and trade-off decisions, and guide teams on secure patterns without slowing delivery.
  • Apply AI to accelerate the work, using AI assisted tooling across architecture design, threat modeling, review, and helping raise the bar for how the team adopts AI.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration with partner teams across the company on reviews, dependencies, and shared initiatives.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
