About This Role:We're looking for a talented engineer to own and evolve the billing systems that power LiveKit's rapid growth. As our platform scales to support billions of metered transactions for our customers across the globe, our invoicing and billing infrastructure needs more dedicated engineering ownership. This is a rare opportunity to join at exactly the right moment, when your work will have outsized impact on customer experience and business velocity. You'll collaborate closely with Finance, Support, GTM, and Product teams, giving you visibility and influence across the organization. Working alongside world-class frontend and backend engineers using modern technologies, you'll build systems that are both technically elegant and commercially essential. What You'll Do:Evolve our billing & monetization platform by ensuring accurate invoicing, reliable revenue capture, and a seamless customer billing experience
Design and build systems for plans, pricing, usage, discounts, credits, and refunds that support flexible packaging and rapid GTM experimentation
Improve financial correctness and auditability by strengthening reconciliation, idempotency, traceability, and error recovery across billing workflows
Enhance observability and reliability by ensuring monitoring, alerting, and diagnostics that detect revenue-impacting issues before customers do
Reduce support toil by building internal tools and automation that make adjustments, credits, and investigations fast and self-service
Partner with Finance, Support, GTM and Product to enable pricing agility and future scale by evolving architecture to support new pricing models, usage-based billing, and international growth
Document and operationalize billing workflows with runbooks and best practices to improve team confidence and response speed
You have strong backend engineering experience designing reliable, scalable services and APIs (Go, gRPC, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, Stripe)
You’ve worked on billing, payments, subscriptions, or other financially critical systems, and understand the importance of accuracy and auditability
You think in systems and edge cases, anticipating race conditions, retries, proration scenarios, and failure modes before they impact customers
You are comfortable working with finance, support, and product stakeholders, translating complex technical behavior into clear outcomes
You have experience with relational data modeling and transactional integrity, and understand idempotency, reconciliation, and audit trails
You value observability and operational excellence, building systems that are diagnosable, monitorable, and resilient
You enjoy reducing manual toil through automation and improving internal workflows
You are motivated by building infrastructure that directly impacts revenue, customer trust, and business growth
