We build solutions that power how we serve policy owners, agents, advisors and employees while delivering measurable business outcomes.

Role Overview
We are seeking a Technical Analyst to lead the analysis, design, and documentation of NYLIS Illustrations output and concept specifications, while contributing broader business analysis expertise across user interfaces, business rules, integrations, and related system requirements. The role partners across business and technology to turn incomplete or high-level requests into comprehensive, development-ready solutions.
The ideal candidate combines strong analytical skills-including familiarity with logical symbols and the ability to read and write logical expressions-with excellent communication and presentation skills, life insurance expertise, and Agile delivery experience. This person is skilled at facilitating working sessions, eliciting and clarifying requirements, explaining complex requirements to developers and testers, and building consensus across diverse stakeholder groups.
Working with a high degree of independence, this person resolves ambiguity, anticipates downstream impacts, upholds cross-product standards, and influences stakeholders toward solutions that support the broader design. The role requires the leadership and judgment to drive requirements from discovery through agreement and sign-off, facilitate cross-functional workshops, and, when needed, lead Agile ceremonies and other delivery discussions.
What You'll Do
Output Design Specifications (Illustration Reports for LIFE, LTC & IDI products)
  • Author and maintain NYLIS output specifications for life insurance products, riders, concepts, calculations, disclosures, and other customer- or field-facing materials.
  • Evaluate each request within the context of the complete output, identifying and addressing impacts beyond the specific page or text cited.
  • Define how changes should appear, where they belong, and how they should behave across products, scenarios, and related concepts.
  • Apply established NYLIS standards and precedents across products, identifying when a new pattern is warranted.
  • Challenge, clarify, or recommend alternatives when a proposed change is incomplete, inconsistent, impractical, or misaligned with the overall output.

Concept and Functional Specifications
  • Author and maintain concept and calculator specifications that translate business intent into complete functional and technical requirements.
  • Identify missing paths, exceptions, contingencies, calculations, dependencies, and impacts to related products, riders, and outputs.
  • Define implementable business rules, logical expressions, workflows, data needs, integration points, acceptance criteria, and calculations.
  • Provide functional guidance to developers, analysts, testers, support teams, and other stakeholders on intended concept and output behavior.
  • Perform gap and impact analysis across processes, systems, integrations, security, data, and outputs, securing stakeholder alignment on the design.

Agile Delivery and Stakeholder Partnership
  • Partner with Product Owners and Agile team members to refine epics and stories, clarify scope, define acceptance criteria, and confirm development readiness.
  • Serve as a liaison across business, technology, legal, compliance, and vendors; communicate complex product and technical details clearly and manage expectations.
  • Participate actively in backlog refinement, sprint planning, design discussions, reviews, retrospectives, defect triage, and release-readiness activities.
  • Communicate dependencies, risks, assumptions, decisions, and delivery impacts, and drive cross-workstream issues to resolution.
  • Maintain current, traceable documentation and alignment among specifications, user stories, and the delivered solution.
  • Use modern tools, automation, and AI-enabled approaches, where appropriate, to improve analysis, documentation, consistency, and delivery efficiency.

What You'll Bring
You are a strong analytical thinker and communicator who can take ownership of complex problems, bring structure to ambiguity, and translate business intent into clear, implementable solutions. You combine attention to detail with a broad, cross-product perspective and are comfortable challenging assumptions, facilitating decisions, and influencing stakeholders across business and technology.
You bring deep knowledge of life insurance products and illustration outputs, along with the technical aptitude to understand logical expressions, calculations, business rules, integrations, and system behavior.
Required Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Information Systems, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in technical analysis, systems analysis, business analysis, product analysis, software development, or a related technology-delivery role.
  • Working knowledge of actuarial or financial mathematics sufficient to understand and document life insurance concept calculations.
  • Strong knowledge of life insurance products, riders, illustrations, and related business processes.
  • Strong business analysis skills across user interfaces, business rules, integrations, and system requirements, with the ability to translate complex or ambiguous needs into clear, development-ready specifications.
  • Strong logical reasoning, including analysis of complex conditions, exceptions, dependencies, and downstream impacts.
  • Demonstrated facilitation and communication skills, including leading requirements workshops, presenting requirements to technical and business audiences, building stakeholder consensus, and driving requirements through approval/sign-off.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and deliver accurate, high-quality results in a complex enterprise environment.

Preferred Skills
  • Experience with life insurance illustration systems, sales concepts, calculation specifications, or regulated customer-facing outputs; actuarial training or experience is a plus.
  • Experience leading or facilitating Agile ceremonies and cross-functional delivery discussions.
  • Experience collaborating with legal, compliance, engineering, quality assurance, vendors, and business stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with SAFe, modernization initiatives, cloud technologies, automation, or Generative AI-enabled analysis and documentation.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
