About the Client

We're helping a growing AI and process automation consultancy based in Munich, Germany find a Senior AI Automation Engineer to design and deliver sophisticated automation and AI-powered business solutions.

The company works with small and medium-sized businesses across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, helping them streamline operations, improve efficiency, and scale through intelligent automation. Its solutions span CRM systems, AI agents, automated workflows, business intelligence, and custom software integrations.

The Role

We're looking for a Senior AI Automation Engineer who combines a strong software development background with advanced hands-on experience in automation engineering and AI integrations.

You'll design and build complex automation systems, integrate AI technologies, develop custom code, and create tailored software solutions when existing platforms aren't sufficient.

Working closely with the founder and delivery team, you'll take ownership of projects from requirements gathering and technical design through development, deployment, and optimization.

This isn't a role for someone who only builds simple automations. We're looking for a software engineer who understands system architecture, can solve complex technical challenges, and knows when to use low-code platforms versus custom development.

Role Details

Commitment: Full-Time (40 hours/week)
Working Hours: CET
Location: Fully Remote
Engagement: Independent Contractor
Monthly Rate: $1,800-$2,400 (can be higher, depending on level of experience)

What You'll DoAI Automation & Workflow Development
  • Design, build, and maintain complex automation workflows using n8n, Make.com, and Zapier.

  • Develop end-to-end integrations connecting business applications, APIs, databases, CRMs, and AI models.

  • Build and optimize HubSpot CRM automations, including contacts, deals, pipelines, properties, and workflows.

  • Develop AI-powered solutions and agents for sales, research, customer support, and other business processes.

  • Troubleshoot and optimize workflows for reliability, scalability, and maintainability.

Software Development & AI Systems
  • Develop custom integrations, scripts, and applications using JavaScript/TypeScript and/or Python.

  • Design robust system architectures involving APIs, webhooks, databases, and authentication.

  • Build RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) systems using LLMs, embeddings, document retrieval, and vector databases.

  • Evaluate existing platforms and develop custom solutions when off-the-shelf tools are insufficient.

  • Apply software engineering and cybersecurity best practices to ensure secure, reliable, and maintainable systems.

Project Ownership & Collaboration
  • Take ownership of projects from requirements gathering and solution design through testing, deployment, and optimization.

  • Translate business requirements into practical technical solutions.

  • Collaborate with the founder and delivery team on technical decisions and project execution.

  • Maintain clear documentation and high standards of quality.

  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve systems, workflows, and development processes.

What We're Looking ForMust-Haves
  • Several years (at least 3+) of professional software development experience, complemented by substantial hands-on automation engineering experience.

  • Advanced proficiency in n8n and Make.com, including complex, multi-step workflows and integrations.

  • Strong hands-on experience with HubSpot CRM, including its data structures, pipelines, properties, and automation capabilities.

  • Practical experience building RAG-based AI systems, including LLM integrations, embeddings, document retrieval, and vector databases.

  • Strong programming skills in JavaScript/TypeScript and/or Python.

  • Solid understanding of APIs, webhooks, databases, authentication, and system architecture.

  • Experience developing AI-powered workflows, LLM integrations, and AI agents.

  • Ability to independently design, troubleshoot, and deliver complex technical solutions.

  • Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.

Nice-to-Haves
  • Experience with Zapier, Close CRM, or other automation and CRM platforms.

  • Familiarity with Claude Code or similar AI-assisted development tools.

  • Experience building custom business applications or replacing/extending SaaS platforms.

  • Background in an AI automation consultancy, agency, or client-facing technical environment.

  • Previous technical leadership experience.

Ideal Candidate Profile

You're a software engineer at heart who understands both traditional development and modern automation platforms. You know when to use n8n or Make.com, when custom code is necessary, and how to design solutions that are secure, scalable, and maintainable.

You're analytical, structured, detail-oriented, and methodical in your approach. You think through technical challenges carefully, make logical and well-reasoned decisions, and value precision and quality over quick fixes.

You're also reliable, accountable, and calm under pressure. You take ownership of projects, communicate proactively, and can be trusted to deliver consistently high-quality work with minimal supervision.

Above all, you're curious about emerging AI technologies and motivated to build practical, innovative solutions that solve real business problems.

Why Join?
  • Work on complex AI automation, RAG, CRM integration, and custom software projects.

  • Collaborate closely with the founder of a growing AI consultancy serving the DACH market.

  • Take ownership of technical solutions with significant autonomy.

  • Help shape technical standards, processes, and future engineering capabilities.

  • Join a long-term, fully remote opportunity with room for professional growth.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
