About the role

As a Senior Onboarding Accounting Specialist, you'll be the first point of contact for new Uplinq clients — guiding them through system setup, data clean-up, and account activation.

This is a high-touch, high-volume role: you'll juggle a large, active portfolio of clients at different onboarding stages, which means the job rewards people who communicate early and often, adapt quickly when something isn't working, and hold themselves accountable for outcomes rather than just effort.

The right candidate will have a magnetic presence on calls and an excitement about interaction with small business owners. The ideal candidate is a person the clients look forward to speaking with, someone who makes them feel confident in the investment they’ve made when choosing Uplinq.

What you'll do

  • Lead daily client meetings to gather financial data, clarify scope, and build trust from the first call — earning it through rapport, clarity, and follow-through, not just technical accuracy.
  • Set up and configure Uplinq and QuickBooks Online accounts, including resolving integration and access issues (Plaid connections, payroll, revenue processors, inventory systems, etc) so systems sync cleanly from day one.
  • Compare signed proposals to actual client needs in the first call, and flag scope or pricing mismatches immediately — to sales, to your manager, and directly to the client — rather than letting a gap surface later and erode trust.
  • Manage a high volume of onboarding timelines and deliverables simultaneously, and proactively speak up when your workload or a specific account is at risk of falling behind, so it can be addressed before it becomes a bigger problem.
  • Troubleshoot setup and data issues using sound accounting judgment, and treat mistakes as fast information rather than something to hide — surface them quickly, learn from them, and adjust.
  • Find workarounds to keep stalled onboardings moving — manual data entry when a feed breaks, alternate document paths, creative scheduling — because an on-time, good-enough solution beats a stalled account waiting for a perfect one.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Initialization, Accounting, and Tax teams to resolve handoff gaps, own your part of the process end-to-end, and transition accounts smoothly into ongoing support.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years in a client-facing accounting or onboarding role, ideally in public or multi-client accounting firm as Senior Associate level or higher
  • 6+ years of daily QuickBooks use including Online setup, integrations, and troubleshooting (not desktop).
  • Strong working knowledge of both cash- and accrual-based accounting.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage 25+ active client relationships at once without letting communication or follow-through slip — someone who escalates early, adapts on the fly, and takes ownership of outcomes rather than absorbing pressure silently.
  • A warm, confident, and memorable presence with clients — someone who builds real rapport fast, puts anxious business owners at ease, and makes a technical process feel personal rather than transactional.
  • Comfortable having direct conversations with clients about scope and pricing when what they signed doesn't match what they need, and willing to admit and correct course quickly when something's off.

Why Join Us

  • Remote-first and flexible work culture
  • Clear path for career growth in a fast-growing firm
  • Modern tech stack and automation-first mindset

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
