The Senior Accountant ensures accurate financial reporting and compliance, manages daily accounting functions, supports audits, and partners on budgeting and forecasting activities.
The Senior Accountant plays a key role in the Finance Department by ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, maintaining compliance with nonprofit healthcare accounting standards, and supporting the organization’s mission through reliable financial stewardship. This role is responsible for day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger, reconciliations, grants compliance, and audit support. The Senior Accountant partners with Finance leadership, operations staff, and external auditors to ensure the integrity of financial information.
Core Responsibilities & Essential Job Functions
- Perform daily accounting operations, including journal entries, reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable, cash, and grant accounting.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly and year-end financial statements in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit healthcare standards.
- Support the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with organizational policies and applicable regulations.
- Prepare schedules and documentation to support the annual financial audit, Form 990, and other regulatory filings.
- Assist in grant reporting and compliance with Uniform Guidance and other funding requirements.
- Partner with the Accounting Manager to support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis activities.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and help implement system enhancements to increase accuracy and efficiency.
- Provide accurate and timely responses to financial data requests from leadership and program staff.
- Ensure financial systems are maintained to support multiple funding streams and donor reporting requirements.
Qualifications
Minimum Education, Experience & Training Equivalent to:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred (not required).
- Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in nonprofit or healthcare organizations.
- Experience with external audits, grant compliance, and Uniform Guidance reporting strongly preferred.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong understanding of GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards (FASB), and healthcare-specific compliance.
- Proficiency in accounting systems (Workday or similar ERP systems) and strong Excel skills. Experience with Adaptive Planning, Power BI, or Tableau a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with non-financial colleagues.

Conditions of Employment
- Ability to obtain and maintain criminal record clearance through the Department of Justice (DOJ). The People & Performance Department must analyze DOJ/FBI live scan reports in accordance with applicable Federal, State, and Local laws, as well as fitness for the position.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License with Insurance and maintain a clean driving record.
- Must be able to pass credit check.
- Ability to obtain and maintain clearance through the Office of Inspector General.
- Able to travel to multiple work sites. Reliable transportation needed.
- Must attend any required training.
