Spacecraft represent the most pressing unmet need across the entire aerospace industry. As more launch vehicles come online and the cost to orbit decreases, more companies launching payloads to space continue to emerge.

For the first time in history, this influx of payload companies combined with reduced launch costs has resulted in a massive increase in need for commercial spacecraft platforms, known as satellite buses. These buses hold the payloads of our customers and are flown on launch vehicles.

Apex manufactures these satellite buses at scale using a combination of software, vertical integration, and hardware that is designed for manufacturing. Our spacecraft enable the future of society: ranging from earth observation to communications and more.

We’d love for you to join us on our mission of providing humankind access to the galaxy beyond our planet.

About the Role

Apex is seeking a Senior Accountant with a focus on revenue accounting for complex satellite bus programs and related service/integration deliverables. Reporting to the Director of Accounting, this role will be responsible for accurate and timely revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606, across both point-in-time (e.g., hardware delivery) and percentage-of-completion (e.g., study/service contracts) arrangements. You’ll also support core month-end close activities, ensuring proper treatment of unbilled revenue, deferred revenue, contract assets, and related reconciliations. This role offers high visibility across sales, operations, and engineering, and is ideal for someone excited about working at the frontier of aerospace while helping scale our revenue function from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply ASC 606 principles to recognize revenue from both hardware (point-in-time) and service/study contracts (percentage-of-completion)

  • Collaborate with Contracts, Sales, and Engineering teams to evaluate contract terms, milestones, and delivery conditions

  • Prepare and maintain revenue schedules, including deferred revenue, unbilled AR, and contract asset rollforwards

  • Support month-end close with reconciliations for revenue, AR, WIP, and related accounts

  • Assist with documentation of revenue recognition policies and memos for audit support

  • Work cross-functionally to implement process improvements and data flows between ERP, CRM, and internal teams

  • Provide support for internal and external audit requests, including population pulls, samples, and narrative memos

  • Participate in, and lead, other projects and ad-hoc analyses across revenue and customer segments

  • Contribute to implementation of Campfire and Palantir-based ERP revenue workflows and controls (Contract to Cash process)

What You Bring

Must-Have:

  • 3–5 years of accounting experience with strong exposure to revenue recognition (ASC 606)

  • Strong experience in contract accounting, including billing milestones, customer deliverables, and stand-alone selling prices of bundled goods and services.

  • Experience recognizing revenue under both point-in-time and percentage-of-completion (POC) models, including deferred revenue and unbilled revenue accounts.

  • Experience with GL close processes, reconciliations, and financial reporting

  • Advanced Excel and working familiarity with systems like QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar ERP systems

  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills

Nice-to-Have:

  • Experience in aerospace, hardware, or manufacturing environments

  • Experience in government contracting, including sub-contract agreements

  • Prior exposure to audit support or pre-IPO environments

  • CPA license or progress toward certification

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
