About the Role:

As Sales Development Representative (SDR) at Papaya, you will drive revenue by generating top of funnel sales opportunities. Success in this role means prospecting, building relationships with new partners, and generating demos in a team-focused environment. Experienced managers will support you in reaching your monthly sales goals.

What you would be doing: 

  • Qualify business leads through cold calls, email, and internet research
  • Creatively prospect by listening and learning about the business’ needs
  • Assist in onboarding new partners through web demos and phone calls
  • Craft creative and engaging messages that generate conversations with promising leads
  • Work closely with the Director of Sales and Account Executives to impact the bottom line and strategically create win-win solutions

We’d like to hear from candidates with: 

  • Drive. You are not afraid of cold calling and are excited to drive meaningful conversations with prospective customers.
  • Sales Experience. You’ve executed strategic prospecting - you know how to find the right people and get them interested.
  • Strong Communication. Excellent communication, both written and verbally, come naturally to you. 
  • Curiosity. You have a track record of experimenting, receiving feedback, and learning new things. 
  • A Bias for Action. You’re results-oriented and and don’t give up easily. You want to grow your sales career at a mission-driven company.

A high standard of integrity and a strong work ethic, paired with effective prioritization and organizational skills are also needed. We’d be especially excited if you have experience cold-calling and cold-emailing. If you have prior knowledge of Salesforce or any other CRM, don’t forget to mention it.

What are some social events your company does?

We have a PapayaTalks series where coworkers present something unique and special to them. A non-exhaustive list of topics we've covered: bharatnatyam, birding, tequila+mezcal, taiwanese food, our school system, motorcycles, competitive online racing.

We also tried to start a band but it never got off ground. I'm sure every startup can relate.

As a startup, all members of our team are in constant collaboration. With an open floor plan and friendly team, we are often helping each other or spitballing ideas. In business development specifically, we work closely with the marketing and customer success teams in order to understand and convey our services to prospective clients.

I've been able to participate in mentorship programs through First Round Capital, get advice from people leaders at Sequoia, and network with bright minds in fintech. Being at a 40-person startup, I'm able to try new things and grow on the job with support from internal and external leadership.

I believe that creative ideas can come from anyone. I've found that giving teams a high degree of autonomy after clearly spelling out goals and constraints leads to the best creative outcomes. Autonomy encourages them to be creative and a clear charter helps avoid analysis paralysis.

I'm most excited about a collaboration with Product to figure out what cool new benefits we can offer new and existing users using a combination of quantitative and qualitative inputs. I'm also excited about the tools I'm building for our various teams to be able to streamline their day, helping them make better & faster decisions using data.
