At the N2 Company, our vision is "to be the most respected franchise in the nation, to share stories that build community, and to provide meaningful work for our team".

About Us

The N2 Company is America’s leading publisher of community magazines. We’re proud of our award-winning media brands – they reach millions of readers in nearly every state and help great businesses connect with ideal clients – but we’re even more proud to provide supportive and fulfilling remote work opportunities for our people.

About The Role

We’re looking for a Readership Engagement Specialist to connect with readers, build trust, and help bring their community stories to life. Reporting to the Director of Content Operations, you’ll learn what matters to each reader, uncover compelling story ideas, and find meaningful ways for them to participate based on their interests and comfort level.

You’ll lead brief introductory calls, identify promising stories, and share helpful details with the content production team so each opportunity can move forward. You’ll also explore future story ideas, encourage reader introductions, and ask for recommendations of local businesses that could be featured in our magazines. While content producers develop the final stories and programming and operations teams manage the publication plan, your role is to make every conversation count and give your teammates the context they need to take the next step.

This role is fully remote. Interviews for this opening will be conducted over the phone and via video calls. The salary for this position is $52,000-$58,000 annually.

The Role in Action

  • Lead warm, engaging 10–15 minute introductory calls that help readers feel comfortable sharing their stories.
  • Identify promising stories and recommend the best content format and level of involvement based on reader preferences and publication needs.
  • Capture future story ideas and invite introductions to other readers when appropriate.
  • Ask readers to recommend local businesses for potential magazine features and share relevant details with the team for follow-up.
  • End each call with clear next steps, shared expectations, and any agreed-upon follow-up.
  • Give the content production team clear handoff notes with story ideas, reader preferences, key details, and next steps.
  • Keep reader and opportunity records up to date in monday.com and review AI-generated notes and recommendations for accuracy before approval.

The Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for someone who will hit the ground running with:

  • Build trust quickly and recognize when readers are interested, hesitant, or uncomfortable.
  • Listen closely and ask thoughtful follow-up questions that keep conversations natural and engaging.
  • Turn conversations into clear summaries and practical recommendations that help the team take action.
  • Keep accurate records, follow through on commitments, and give teammates the information they need.

Skills and Qualities that Set You Apart:

  • Use good judgment to match story ideas with publication needs and reader interests.
  • Make handoffs useful with clear details that help teammates keep conversations moving.
  • Stay open to learning new tools and workflows, applying feedback, and taking responsibility for AI-supported work.

Benefits Designed with You in MindHealth & Wellness
  • Full health care coverage for you and your family.
  • Complimentary basic dental coverage.
  • Access to a licensed nutritionist to support your health and wellness goals.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) with complimentary mental health resources and additional support services.

  • 401(k) plan with a company match to help secure your financial future.
  • Financial planning services to guide you in achieving your financial goals.
  • $7,000 contribution toward the purchase of your first home through our First-Time Homebuyer Program.

Paid Leave

  • Paid time off, including a paid, week-long Holiday Break each year.
  • Three-week paid sabbatical after four years of service.
  • Paternal leave, including twelve weeks of paid maternity leave and two weeks of paid paternity leave.
Remote Work Support
  • Monthly remote-work reimbursement to assist with home office and internet expenses.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
