Make a difference.

As a Quotations Specialist, you will handle the quotations process from the time you receive the request to the time you submit the quote to the customer. You will communicate with Graybar sales representatives, customer service representatives, customers and manufacturer representatives to gather needed details to create your quotes. You will learn about our product lines and pricing mechanics, as well as the computer systems we use, in order to provide quotations that result in profitable sales for the company.

In this role you will:

  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for low-voltage (LV) and medium-voltage (MV) electrical gear, assemblies, and related materials requested by Sales, Customer Service, and project teams.
  • Read, interpret, and analyze single-line electrical drawings, schematics, and layouts to accurately identify required LV and MV electrical equipment, ratings, configurations, and accessories.
  • Review and interpret customer specifications, project requirements, and contract documents to ensure quotations are compliant with technical, commercial, and customer-specific standards.
  • Compile, review, and organize bills of material (BOMs), drawings, and specifications using in-depth knowledge of manufactured products, engineered solutions, and available services.
  • Identify scope gaps, conflicts, or ambiguities between single-line drawings, specifications, and BOMs; proactively communicate clarification needs to Sales or customers.
  • Evaluate and compare competing manufacturers’ BOMs, configurations, and technical offerings to determine the most appropriate and cost-effective solution aligned with customer and specification requirements.
  • Support pre-submittals, submittals, resubmittals, and revisions, ensuring alignment with customer specifications and drawing intent prior to release.
  • Identify and itemize accessories, control options, and third-party equipment sourced externally as part of the quotation.
  • Contact manufacturers, factories, and authorized representatives to obtain pricing, lead times, technical clarifications, and compliance confirmations related to specifications and drawings.
  • Compute cost and sell pricing using multiple factors including margins, inventory availability, competitive environment, price validity, logistics, freight, handling, staging, and abnormal shipping requirements.
  • Identify and communicate technical and commercial risks related to equipment selection, specification compliance, lead times, or scope assumptions.
  • Ensure all quotations, customer approvals, and acknowledgments are properly documented to reduce liability and support audit and order execution requirements.
  • Maintain accurate digital job files, including drawings, specifications, correspondence, and pricing assumptions, to support smooth handoff to Order Management and Operations.

What you bring to the table:

  • 4–5 years of experience quoting electrical gear, switchgear, or engineered electrical solutions within the electrical distribution or manufacturing industry.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities.
  • Four-year degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Demonstrated business acumen with strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

Compensation Details: The expected starting rate of pay for this position is 35.00 USD Hourly, based on experience.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
