About Huckleberry

At Huckleberry, our purpose is simple yet powerful: to build life-changing products and experiences that help all families unlock everyday magic.

Today, more than 5 million families trust Huckleberry and our app to be their partner through parenthood. Real pediatric expertise works hand-in-hand with data science, AI, and behavioral science to provide support behind-the-scenes that guides every parent through their unique journey.

We believe every family should feel taken care of—which is why we’re growing quickly and expanding our product offerings to help every family thrive.

About the role

We are hiring a QA Manager to champion quality across Huckleberry’s product suite and ensure we deliver smooth, reliable, and delightful experiences to the families who rely on us. This role is central to our mission of taking care of every family; When our app works seamlessly, parents can focus on what matters most!

As our QA Manager, you’ll lead a globally distributed team of 12 QA engineers spanning manual and automation, reporting directly to the CTO. You’ll own the QA function end to end — strategy, staffing, standards, and effectiveness — and you’ll own the call on release readiness as the final quality voice on what ships and when. This is a role for someone who builds quality in from the start.

Areas of Responsibility

    • Team Leadership & Development

      • Lead and grow a globally distributed team of 12 QA engineers across manual and automated testing

      • Shape how we scale QA capacity — partner with our outsourcing partner to staff pods, set the quality bar for partner engineers, and build a blended team that operates as one

      • Build and execute a hiring strategy in line with team and company goals

      • Establish team performance processes, standards, and documentation

      • Team development and mentorship through regular one-on-ones, providing feedback, coaching, and performance management

      • Release Ownership & Quality Risk

        • Own the go/no-go call on release readiness and be accountable for it

        • Identify and surface quality risks early in the release cycle so engineering leadership can make informed decisions on scope, prioritization, and timing

        • Negotiate release trade-offs with product and engineering stakeholders — when quality concerns arise, land an outcome that protects both the release date and the user experience

        • Drive down post-release defect and hotfix rates; monitor production quality, lead the response when issues land, and close the loop on root causes

        • Quality Reporting and Strategic Guidance

          • Provide visibility to C-level on quality coverage, developing and executing plans to ensure efficient and effective test coverage

          • Work with leadership to establish quality KPIs and drive progress toward goals

          • Process Improvement

            • Champion, implement, and drive shift-left quality practices with real world outcomes

            • Establish quality best practices across the QA team and communicate them to engineering partners

            • Continuously iterate on QA processes, tools, and automation opportunities to improve testing efficiency and effectiveness

            • Document testing standards, maintain test case libraries, and ensure clear communication of quality processes across teams

Requirements

  • 6+ years of total experience within QA

  • 3+ years of QA management experience, including the management of globally distributed teams

  • Excellent People Management skills with a demonstrated ability to develop team members, manage performance, and build a high-performing culture.

  • Solution-oriented leader able to manage quality incidents with a level head, focusing on root causes and scalable solutions

  • Strong communicator able to articulate quality status, risks, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Mobile QA subject matter expert across manual and automated QA — regression testing, test coverage, and device/OS matrix strategy

  • Demonstrated ownership of release readiness decisions, including a track record of reducing post-release defects or hotfix frequency

  • AI-native QA practice — you use AI daily in your own workflow and have shipped production QA processes that depend on it, not pilots

  • Experience designing and implementing new QA approaches in an organization (e.g. shift left)

Nice to have

  • Consumer subscription mobile app experience at scale

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
