About Epirus

Epirus is a high-growth technology company that develops solid-state, human-safe directed energy systems that enable unprecedented counter-electronics effects and power management solutions to enhance power efficiency in defense and commercial electronics. With a constant emphasis on innovation, we are redefining modern power systems to increase the velocity of change for our customers and bring tomorrow's capabilities to life, today.

Job Objective: The Lead E3 Engineer will lead a team focused on characterizing and understanding these EMP effects on different target electronics. This includes Radiated Susceptibility / HIRF testing of target electronics, using both Epirus HPM test assets and other (e.g. industry standard) test assets, data analysis of results, root cause / failure analysis on affected electronics, and providing recommendations on Epirus HPM Concept of Operations (CONOPS) based on effects findings. A physics-based understanding of electromagnetic coupling and susceptibility effects, as well as technical familiarity with a variety of electronic technologies, ranging from digital electronics, power management subsystems, motors/actuators/servos and their controllers, and more would be of great value in this role. Creativity, critical thinking, and leveraging of both internal capabilities as well as outside vendor/industry partner capabilities will be key for this role.

Duties:

  • Manage Epirus’s RF chambers, HPM lab assets, and related equipment to keep up with the demand / pace of testing
  • Design test plans, including system monitoring / effect assessment apparatuses
  • Perform data analysis to characterize extents and limits of different effects
  • Contribute to internal body of knowledge on how and why different electronics exhibit different susceptibilities
  • Coordinate root cause analyses of effects on electronics, involving both temporary and permanent failures, potentially ranging from probing components, attempting to recreate effects with controlled/localized RF injection (e.g. conducted emissions), planning for specialized test equipment, and/or sending parts out for third-party failure analysis
  • Propose new R&D efforts, in coordination with Engineering and Business Development leadership
  • Clearly document and communicate findings

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 5 - 10+ years of experience in EMI/EMC, E3, or related fields
  • Strong critical thinking skills, experience designing experiments
  • Experience with EMI / EMC testing, HIRF testing, and/or HPM/EMP testing
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-464, MIL-HDBK-235-8, DO-160, and other relevant standards
  • Experience with Electromagnetic modeling & simulation
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident (future security clearance may be required)

Desired Qualifications:

  • Aerospace/Defense experience and/or military experience preferred, or experience in robotics or a similar industry
  • Good written and oral communication skills; not afraid to speak up, either to ask for help or disagree on a technical point that warrants more discussion
  • Collaborative; capable of working across all levels of the organization
  • Eager to learn and to help others on the team
  • Organized; comfortable working in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
  • Focused, with perspective on what matters most, rapidly delivering customer value

At Epirus, we work to create innovative power solutions to solve some of the world’s most complex problems. We are forward thinking in nature and committed to bringing tomorrow’s capabilities to life, today. To deliver on our mission, our team is comprised of individuals with deep expertise in mechanical and electrical engineering (including radio frequency and digital circuit design) as well as software design. We are always looking for top-tier problem solvers and changemakers to join our fast-growing team.
