About This Role

At Apeel Sciences, we look to nature to help the global food system improve quality, reduce waste, and ensure an abundant future for our planet. We are looking for an early career EHS professional to join our growing team as an EHS Associate. As an EHS Associate, you will be responsible for taking ownership of the tools and processes used in the identification, assessment, and control of hazards encountered and created across the organization. Our goal is to ensure a safe and healthful workplace and maintain compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. The position supports the entire Apeel organization, including wet lab chemistry, engineering design and fabrication, and operations in a variety of produce handling facilities. This role reports to the Sr. EHS Manager.

What You’ll Do

  • Own responsibility for Apeel’s EHS “ground game” by working with office and field level stakeholders to drive safe and compliant operations across a global workforce. This requires being able to successfully manage safety with in-person engagement and using digital tools to communicate and operate with a distributed workforce
  • Own responsibility for a variety of safety processes and tools designed to limit and control risk in our operations. This will require understanding and deploying these tools to all employees and adapting and improving them to meet current and forecasted needs. The processes will include:
  • Incident Investigation
  • Auditing and Inspections
  • EHS Training
  • EHS Data Analysis and Reporting
  • And others as needed or developed
  • Support HQ operations by engaging with chemists, engineers, and biologists to build EHS plans for R&D research proposals and engineering and fabrication projects
  • Perform risk assessments on equipment and processes to determine needed safeguards. Use those risk assessments to design auditing and inspection criteria and to use as instruction/communication resources for training.
  • Travel required up to 20% of the time and for durations of up to 2 weeks

What You Bring

  • B.S. Degree in Environmental, Safety or related technical field required; M.S. Degree in Environmental or Safety Engineering or Technology preferred.
  • Previous job or academic experience with OSHA or EPA compliance
  • Willing and ready to work towards ASP/CSP certification
  • Spanish language skills strongly preferred
