THE PURPOSE:

VHO has a duty of care for employees, contractors and visitors. It is the responsibility of the EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) team to participate in the different activities occurring globally throughout the organization, to develop the necessary programs and practices that maintain that duty of care on a firm, fair and consistent basis.

The EHS Manager will ensure a safe and healthy working environment for all VHO staff, visitors and contractors. This includes controlling risks to individuals and the environment that are posed through the direct activities of the VHO organization, by applying best practice controls to all operational processes.

THE ROLE:
The EHS Manager is responsible for implementing, executing, monitoring all EH&S initiatives to ensure EH&S compliance and continuously improve EH&S performance.

  • Drive corporate culture and implement continuous safety improvement processes
  • Assist in the development of an automated incident management system and participate in incident investigations
  • Develop a comprehensive internal communications and awareness campaign
  • Perform new hire safety orientation and role specific EHS training
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and maintain all written EH&S programs and policies in accordance with OSHA, Cal-OSHA, USEPA and/or corporate standards and in compliance with applicable laws
  • Work with site employees to complete hazard analysis (JHA) and implement resulting safeguards
  • Assist in the development of site emergency planning and emergency teams. Responds to all EH&S emergencies such as those involving hazardous materials incidents or spills, combustible dust hazards, confined space, first aid etc.
  • Assist with the preparation and implementation of all environmental permits, reports, training and related requirements.
  • Manage hazardous waste program to include; satellite accumulation, 180 day storage area, collection, reduction strategies and training
  • Manage permitting to include HMBP, stormwater, AQMD, Fire and other local agencies
  • Implement IIPP program and assist teams with area inspections.
  • Assist site personnel with LOTO program implementation, perform annual inspections and program review.
  • Lead site chemical management program to include DOT, HazCom and storage requirements.
  • Promote a culture of safety and raising safety awareness
  • Gather & analyze EHS data, develop goals/targets & manage scorecards, databases and dashboards for EHS related programs & metrics.

THE CANDIDATE:

  • You not only have a strong understanding of federal, state and local regulations but are able to apply those regulations toward VHOs operations.
  • You have experience designing and implementing safety and environmental programs, conducting risk analysis and providing training.
  • The right candidate will have expertise in understanding metrics and using the information toward continuous improvement efforts.


MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong track record of EHS experience within an engineering, manufacturing, and research and design (R&D) environment
  • Experience OSHA (1910 & 1926), EPA, DTSC, AQMD, RWQCB and DOT
  • Experience in handling various audits and completing action plans for improvements
  • Knowledge of applicable laws related to environment, health and safety and related compliance
  • Experience handling Environmental, Health and Safety awareness and implementation initiatives
  • Ability to direct cross-functional work groups to achieve objectives, goals and timelines
  • Experience prioritizing and managing multiple & technical assignments concurrently.
  • Strong communication, business, technical, analytical and planning skills
  • Demonstrated leadership, process management, project management, and team-building skills
  • Experience in assisting in developing and implementing goals and strategies based on organization needs
  • Strong MS Office Skills

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health Safety Management or related field
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) – Board of Safety Professionals
