Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead and deliver strategic business and technology initiatives within Bank. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Banking and Financial Services, with proven expertise in managing end-to-end project implementations, stakeholder engagement, governance, risk management, and Agile delivery.

This role serves as the primary liaison between business stakeholders, technology teams, vendors, and external partners, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead the planning, execution, monitoring, and successful delivery of multiple concurrent projects, managing project scope, schedule, budget, risks, and quality.
  • Drive end-to-end project implementation activities from initiation through closure, ensuring alignment with business objectives and strategic priorities.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans, project schedules, resource plans, budgets, status reports, and implementation roadmaps.
  • Ensure project deliverables meet agreed business requirements, success criteria, and quality standards.

Stakeholder Management

  • Partner with business leaders, product owners, technology teams, operations teams, and third-party vendors to define project objectives, requirements, and deliverables.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders, providing regular communication, status updates, executive reporting, and issue resolution.
  • Facilitate steering committee meetings, governance reviews, and executive-level discussions.

Risk, Issue & Change Management

  • Proactively identify, assess, track, and mitigate project risks, dependencies, and issues.
  • Manage project change requests and ensure appropriate governance and approvals are followed.
  • Escalate critical risks and blockers to leadership with recommended resolution strategies.

Agile & Delivery Excellence

  • Support Agile delivery practices and collaborate effectively with cross-functional Agile teams.
  • Facilitate project ceremonies, sprint planning, milestone reviews, and delivery tracking as required.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying process optimization opportunities and implementing best practices.

Resource & Financial Management

  • Coordinate internal and external project resources to ensure effective project execution.
  • Monitor project budgets, forecasts, and resource utilization to achieve delivery objectives.
  • Ensure optimal allocation of resources based on project priorities and organizational goals.

Risk & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to M&T Bank's risk management framework, regulatory requirements, internal controls, and compliance standards.
  • Identify and escalate control, compliance, or regulatory concerns that may impact project outcomes.
  • Maintain appropriate project documentation to support audit, compliance, and governance requirements.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, Finance, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in Project Management, Program Delivery, Implementations.
  • Mandatory experience within Banking and Financial Services, including one or more of the following: 
    • Commercial Banking
    • Retail Banking
    • Wealth Management
    • Treasury Services
    • Lending Operations
    • Banking Technology Programs
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple simultaneous projects with varying complexity and stakeholder groups.
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies, governance frameworks, and delivery best practices.
  • Experience working in Agile, Scrum, Hybrid, or Waterfall environments.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders across all organizational levels.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
