Responsibilities

As Project Manager, you’ll own the day-to-day planning and execution of our OS development. You will support our in-house team and coordinate with our remote development partner. Your mission is to keep both our releases on schedule, ensuring each deliverable meets our high quality and simplicity standards. Key duties include:

  • Team Coordination: Drive alignment and execution across engineering, design, QA, and external partners to deliver platform milestones with clarity and urgency.
  • Release Planning: Lead the planning and tracking of our OS releases – including major quarterly releases and updates.
  • Agile Process: Facilitate sprint planning and backlog grooming; define milestones and set clear agendas for weekly leadership review meetings.
  • Execution & Accountability: Maintain execution momentum by keeping deliverables on track, upholding sprint cadences, and ensuring team accountability to commitments.
  • Cross-Team Communication: Act as a communications hub by aggregating issues and feedback from Slack and our Facebook community, and ensuring all stakeholders stay aligned and informed.
  • Tools Management: Maintain project tools (Jira, Notion): keep sprint boards updated, ensure feature specs and processes are documented in Notion, and organize all tracking systems.
  • Stakeholder Alignment: Promote team alignment and stakeholder visibility by providing regular status updates and helping structure effective collaboration across all groups.
Qualifications

We’re looking for an experienced software project manager with a proven track record in fast-paced product development. You thrive on structure, accountability, and clear processes. The ideal candidate has:

  • 5+ years of experience in software project management in a fast-moving, high-accountability environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver frequent, high-quality software releases on schedule.
  • Proven skill coordinating across remote teams and managing asynchronous workflows.
  • Highly organized and self-motivated; you set standards for planning and rigorously enforce accountability.
  • Hands-on, pragmatic mindset – you challenge assumptions and trim scope for simplicity
  • Strong proficiency with project management tools (Jira, Notion, etc.) and excellent written/verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional cross-functional leadership – no direct reports, but you drive teams by influence and ensure projects get done.
  • US-based (remote work OK) with flexibility for occasional travel to meet the team in person.
  • Familiarity with embedded operating systems is a plus.
Why You’ll Love Working Here

At Nex, you’ll operate like a true owner of the project. Our culture is startup-casual: nimble, energetic, and mission-driven, with every team member’s input valued. You’ll work closely with executive leadership and see the direct impact of your work on the product. If you’re an organized self-starter who thrives on initiative, clear communication, and simplifying complex challenges, you’ll fit right in. Join us and help shape the future of family gaming by leading this ambitious embedded OS project from concept to launch.

We Offer
  • Competitive compensation package.
  • Flexible working hours and vacation policy.
  • Product-driven culture that treasures talents and individual growth.
  • Front-row seat and hands-on experience with cutting edge technologies in the evolving gaming field

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
