The Nuclear Company is the fastest growing startup in the nuclear and energy space creating a never before seen fleet-scale approach to building nuclear reactors. Through its design-once, build-many approach and coalition building across communities, regulators, and financial stakeholders, The Nuclear Company is committed to delivering safe and reliable electricity at the lowest cost, while catalyzing the nuclear industry toward rapid development in America and globally.

About the role

The Nuclear Company is hiring a Project Controls and Integration Lead for the FORGE Engineering Cell. This role will create schedules and keep the team synchronized through the completion of Front End Loading (FEL) deliverables, and produce project cost and schedule forecasts as the rest of the team originates basic project data.

This is not a traditional project management role. The person in this seat must be technically fluent enough to participate in process and design discussions, sharp enough to identify when workstreams are diverging or when assumptions are inconsistent, and organized enough to turn a team of creative technical thinkers into a team that delivers

The role will be remote to start with an expected relocation to Washington, DC in 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the FORGE Engineering Cell’s study program: schedule, milestones, deliverables, and interdependencies.
  • Integrate outputs from the process engineer and equipment engineers into unified design basis documents.
  • Incorporate basic data from the team into cost and schedule estimates
  • Identify and resolve conflicts between workstreams—for example, when the optimal process flow conflicts with the optimal facility layout.
  • Support government stakeholder deliverables with technically substantive project documentation.
  • Track risks, open questions, and design decisions in a structured way that enables rapid decision-making.
  • Prepare and present integrated project status to TNC leadership.

Experience

  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills: the ability to distill complex technical tradeoffs into clear decision frameworks.
  • Experience on megaprojects or large capital programs, ideally in a technical integrator or lead project engineer role.
  • Intimate knowledge and experience working with a FEL stage gate framework
  • Strong technical foundation in engineering (mechanical, industrial, chemical, or similar)—enough to be a credible participant in technical discussions, not just an observer.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex, ambiguous, early-stage projects where the scope itself is evolving.
  • 4–8 years of experience in project engineering or technical program management in heavy industry, energy, aerospace, or defense.

Personal Attributes

  • A systems thinker who sees the connections between workstreams before they become problems.
  • Comfortable being the person who asks “how does this fit together?” when everyone else is deep in their own domain.
  • Energized by building structure around creative work without killing the creativity.
  • Calm under ambiguity, decisive when needed.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation packages
  • 401k with company match
  • Medical, dental, vision plans
  • Generous vacation policy, plus holidays

Estimated Starting Salary Range
The estimated starting salary range for this role is $150,000 - $173,000 annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a bi-weekly basis. The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company’s discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
