Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn't work together.
So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions - to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we've embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes - large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We're building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.
The Role
Square is seeking a Product Partnerships Manager to lead high-impact product and technology partnerships that help sellers operate more efficiently and grow. This role will have a dual focus on 1/ leading product partnerships that benefit Canadian sellers and 2/ supporting the Square product. We are looking for an experienced product partnerships operator with a track record of leading complex product partnerships end-to-end with strong product and business acumen.
Reporting to the Head of Product Partnerships, this role will work closely with leaders across Square Product, Engineering, Sales, Account Management, Finance, and Legal, as well as CashApp and AfterPay. The ideal candidate is proficient in product development, API integrations, and deep knowledge of the commerce ecosystem (especially for the Canadian market). A deep sense of ownership, drive, and entrepreneurship is essential.
You Will
  • Partnership Strategy Create and implement a partner strategy for maximizing the impact of a product partnership - both on the integration experience for Square and the seller, plus economic and commercial viability of the partnership.
  • Sourcing, Negotiation, and Deal Leadership Source, evaluate, and secure products partnerships aligned with product priorities. Lead negotiations across product and commercial terms, integration scope, and GTM commitments. Structure partnership agreements that balance partner needs with Square's product objectives.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership Lead partner initiatives cross-functionally, aligning Product, Sales, Marketing, Finance, Legal, and Operations around shared goals. Provide structured partner feedback and market insights to influence product and GTM decisions. Advocate for partners while maintaining disciplined prioritization and strong business judgment.
  • Measurement and Accountability Own overall integration experience, including the quality as measured by adoption and usage. Use data and insights to continuously refine partner-level strategy and execution.

You Have
  • 9+ years of business development or partner management experience, preferably at an innovative commerce or payments company.
  • A demonstrated track record of success managing product partnerships and programs.
  • Proven ability to build C-suite relationships and navigate external organizations both to identify internal champions and to influence decision makers. You are an expert negotiator with a strong understanding of commercial contracts and complex negotiating dynamics that may be simultaneously cooperative and competitive.
  • Ultimate cross-functional team player: Establish yourself as the go-to voice for our partnership strategy that can be relied on by multiple internal functions and teams. You'll act as an utmost connector and open doors for others, while providing critical market feedback to improve our product.
  • Deep comfort operating in the ambiguity of an ever-evolving product.
  • Genuine interest and savviness in product - especially working with multiple product and engineering teams for a single partner.
  • Willingness to travel (primarily domestically but sometimes internationally) for both internal and external meetings.
  • BS/BA required; MBA or Masters degree a plus

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
