Description
If you're a data-driven strategist who gets energized by building new and impactful customer-facing experiences, you might be the perfect fit!
You'll join the team behind a new consumer-facing small commercial quoting and binding experience already driving meaningful growth at Liberty Mutual. This is early-stage, high-upside work, and as a Product Owner, you'll own a value-add backlog across two scrum teams, partnering cross-functionally to develop journey maps, define objectives and key results (OKRs) and gather feedback to inform what you build next.
This is a highly visible role with a direct line to growing our small commercial book of business. You'll balance qualitative insights and quantitative data to guide decisions, shape product vision, drive incremental delivery, and create portfolio runway through strong cross-functional partnership.
If you're curious, tenacious and excited by the chance to shape a new digital sales experience from its earliest chapters, this is a role you'll want to explore.
Key responsibilities
  • Define and communicate product vision and strategy aligned with portfolio and organizational priorities.
  • Own and prioritize the product backlog; write clear, testable user stories and acceptance criteria that enable engineering to deliver business value.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement across business, technology, and executive leadership to set expectations for timelines, capabilities, and trade-offs.
  • Translate customer problems and business objectives into actionable work, focusing both squads on the highest-value outcomes.

Ideal candidate will have:
  • Background in small commercial insurance, an important foundation as the experience is scaled.
  • Strong strategy and visioning: You dream big and act boldly, listening to customers, incorporating business objectives and articulating a clear strategy for where a new platform goes next.
  • An experimental mindset: You're comfortable making calls on incomplete information, and you'd rather learn fast from a small test than debate your way to certainty.
  • Curiosity and tenacity: You deeply understand opportunities and rally cross-functional teams to execute.
  • Analytical foundation: Data informs and supports your work, and you recognize that a data-driven mindset is imperative to identifying and solving problems at scale.
  • Comfort in ambiguity: You are a self-starter and a leader, impacting outcomes through collaboration.
  • Stakeholder management: You are a strong storyteller with the ability to influence both executive and technical audiences.
  • Reside in the Eastern Standard Time zone.

This position requires two in-office days per week for candidates who reside within 50 miles of Columbus, OH; Seattle, WA; Boston, MA; Portsmouth, NH; Indianapolis, IN; or Plano, TX.
Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of Agile development methodologies as typically acquired through a Bachelors' degree in relevant field (business, computer science, humanities etc.), 7 years in business, technology, or consulting with 5 to 7 years direct experience with agile teams
  • Master's degree preferred
  • High level of proven business expertise needed to set clear priorities for product and understand business value impacts
  • Develops strong stakeholder relationships and influencing across multiple organizational boundaries
  • Demonstrated experience leading varied audiences through the development of complex ideas, issues and designs
  • Ability to lead varied audiences through census building
  • Proven experience with Agile practices and expectations
  • Comfortable with making decisions with some level of uncertainty
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
