About the team

Stripe’s Product Legal team is responsible for managing the legal and regulatory elements of the design, build and execution of our products and services. We work on some of the hardest technical, commercial, and regulatory problems around, and we’re looking for a product lawyer to join our team. In this role you will be a key advisor to Stripe’s product, engineering and partnerships teams, and will work on a diverse set of matters that straddle financial services, business processes, and technology.

Stripe operates within a complex and interwoven legal, regulatory, and financial partnership environment around the world. 

What you’ll do
  • Counsel the global product team on a range of issues relating to the adoption of artificial intelligence in all facets of Stripe’s business. including data protection and privacy law, consumer protection, and product development.
  • Closely collaborate with teams across Stripe (including, engineering, partnerships, privacy and security teams) to deliver pragmatic and actionable legal advice to your clients on a range of issues related to the product development lifecycle - from initial scoping to launch
  • Draft, review, and update internal and external-facing foundational terms and documents for Stripe’s products and service offerings
  • Stay up-to-date (with the support of Stripe’s many legal subject matter experts) on laws and regulations dealing with consumer financial data access; analyze laws, regulatory updates, industry trends to proactively advise clients of potential product impacts
  • Participate as a proactive business partner to your product team and build a trusted advisor relationship offering key legal and strategic business input in evolving Stripe and its product roadmap and strategy
Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements
  • 6+ years of demonstrated experience either as a qualified lawyer in a top law firm or in-house legal team working with technology companies (ideally the law that applies to cloud-based API service providers) on the legal and regulatory aspects of product development in the technology space
  • Proficiency in, and passion for, working with technology and ability to understand complex operational and business models as well as multiple product use cases quickly
  • A self-starter and self-learner who thrives in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple work streams and priorities simultaneously and efficiently
  • Someone with an ownership mentality that deals well with ambiguity, prides themselves on having excellent judgment and making decisions with limited information
  • Strong communication and relational skills and can work well cross-functionally with a sense of urgency, while remaining highly collaborative and fun
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills to stay on top of shifting priorities and thrives working under tight deadlines
  • A background in technology law, Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strategic thinking to enable business partners to make decisions that are grounded in a practical application of the law, the technology, and the business goals.
