Job Summary

The Skirball Cultural Center seeks a high-energy, relationship-driven Social Events Sales Specialist to lead our life-cycle event segment. This role is dedicated to capturing the "milestone" market—weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, anniversaries, and high-end celebrations. You will be responsible for driving a minimum of $350,000 in new social business annually while personally guiding families through the emotional and logistical journey of their most important days. Reporting to the Director of Private Event Sales, you will act as a premier ambassador for the Skirball, blending sales grit with the high-touch "concierge" service required for luxury social clients.

Compensation: $75,000–$87,000 (Salary; no commission)
Status: Full-time, Exempt
Schedule: Six (6) days a week operation; scheduled days/times vary based on event calendar. Weekend and evening availability is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Social Revenue Generation: Achieve an annual new business target of $350,000 by proactively mining the social market, converting high-intent inquiries, and networking with wedding planners and industry influencers.
  • Life-Cycle Event Management: Independently manage the end-to-end journey for 50+ social events annually. You are the primary visionary and point of contact from the first tour to the moment the last guest departs.
  • Couture Proposals: Create emotive, visually-driven event proposals and customized pricing scenarios that reflect the unique "dream" of each family while maximizing venue revenue.
  • The "Skirball Experience": Conduct high-impact site tours that sell the "feeling" of the space, expertly handling the nuances of multi-generational decision-makers (parents, couples, and planners).
  • Administrative Precision: Maintain 100% accuracy in the Momentus/Ungerboeck CRM, managing intricate floor plans via Social Tables and ensuring all contracts and deposits are flawlessly tracked.
  • On-Site Execution & Synergy: Partner closely with catering, décor, and AV teams to ensure the transition from "sales" to "celebration" is seamless and exceeds client expectations.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 4–7 years of proven success in social hospitality sales (weddings/milestone events), with a documented track record of hitting high-volume revenue goals in a premium venue or hotel setting.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in Momentus/Ungerboeck (highly preferred) and Social Tables. Must be adept at Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Communication & Emotional Intelligence: Exceptional negotiation skills with the ability to navigate the emotional complexities of social planning; must be comfortable influencing high-net-worth individuals.
  • Logistics & Detail: Ability to manage a high-volume pipeline with obsessive attention to detail; data entry speed of at least 60 WPM.
  • Requirements: Valid driver’s license and the flexibility to work a schedule dictated by the "social season" (heavy weekends and evenings).

Benefits

  • Comprehensive group health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Paid vacation, sick time, personal days, and holiday pay.
  • 403(b) retirement plan with employer contribution.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
