The MSec Trust Team is responsible for enabling innovation while maintaining customer trust through effective governance, compliance, and risk management. We are seeking a Principal Technical Program Manager in Responsible AI to lead the Responsible AI (RAI) strategy, governance, and execution across Microsoft Security. This role is the RAI Program Owner in MSec, accountable for driving adoption and compliance with Microsoft RAI requirements, translating policy and regulatory expectations into scalable engineering practices, and ensuring organizational readiness for evolving AI risks and compliance obligations. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to engineering and business leaders, influence AI direction across the division, and drive operational excellence in RAI through governance, tooling, and process improvements.

Responsibilities
  • Own and drive the Responsible AI program strategy, governance framework, and operating model across MSec.
  • Serve as the MSec RAI Division Lead and drive alignment between MSec and the Office of Responsible AI (ORA), CoreAI, and Deployment Safety Board (DSB), ensuring alignment with enterprise-wide policies, standards, and priorities.
  • Lead implementation and operationalization of RAIS (Responsible AI Standard) requirements through engineering systems, product development lifecycles, tooling, and business processes.
  • Lead MSec’s response to AI-related audits, assessments, certification, and regulatory inquiries, including support for framework such as ISO/IEC 42001.
  • Identify, assess, and coordinate mitigation of AI-related risks while strengthening the division’s overall risk management posture and ensuring appropriate governance and accountability mechanisms are in place.
  • Establish scalable and durable controls, metrics, reporting and readiness programs to measure compliance health, program effectiveness, and organizational maturity.
  • Provide strategic guidance to leadership and partners across Microsoft to foster a culture of Responsible AI, share best practices, and drive continuous improvement

Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
 
Other Requirements
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
 
Additional or preferred qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 12+ years experience engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 1+ year(s) of experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos).
  • Experience with Responsible AI, AI governance, AI safety, AI risk management, or trustworthy AI programs.
  • Knowledge of emerging AI regulations, industry standards, and regulatory compliance frameworks.
  • Demonstrate ability to influence strategic decisions, drive organizational change, and deliver results with enterprise-wide impacts.
  • Proven ability to build scalable governance models, operational frameworks, and engineering enablement solutions that improve organizational maturity.

Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $142,800 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
