ABOUT US

FarmRaise is revolutionizing agriculture by transforming raw farm data into actionable intelligence. Our platform ingests agronomic, financial, and imagery data - from a farmer’s phone camera to their bank feed - and produces clean, structured insights that power financial access, compliance, and sustainability outcomes.

At FarmRaise, our mission is to transform half of America’s cropland to sustainable practices by 2030. Each day, we’re building data infrastructure and AI-powered tools that make farm operations smarter and more resilient. Our team moves fast, does more with less, and is motivated by driving outcomes that truly matter.

With a lean team and minimal budget, we’ve attracted tens of thousands of producers organically and partnered with agricultural lenders, buyers, and regulators including Blue Diamond Growers, BTC Bank, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. We’re featured as the best all-around farm accounting solution by Nerdwallet and are backed by top investors such as Pear VC, Accel, Susa Ventures, and Better Tomorrow Ventures. Our team includes farmers, farmers’ kids, and technologists passionate about building a more profitable, sustainable future for agriculture.

ABOUT YOU

You’re obsessed with building AI-driven products that make a tangible difference in the real world. You’ve scaled early-stage startups from seed to Series B and thrive where technology meets messy, real-world data. You want to work on products that see, understand, and act — where machine learning meets everyday use.

  • Startup Experience: You’ve played an engineering role in scaling a startup from seed to Series B.

  • Comfortable with Ambiguity: When plans aren’t fully formed, you step up to collaborate with PMs or business stakeholders to shape them. You don’t wait for perfect processes before getting started and thrive in a rapidly evolving environment.

  • Independent Problem Solver: When blockers arise, you’re not afraid to get involved in PM or design if needed to keep things moving.

  • T-shaped Engineer: You have deep expertise in one area (e.g., specific backends, databases, or dev ops) but are comfortable working across the entire stack when necessary.

  • Technical Leadership: You enjoy leading small project teams and can mentor others in writing efficient, clean, and scalable code.

THE HIGHLIGHTS

  • FarmRaise is hiring a Principal Product Engineer who will report to Cory McArthur, our Head of Product.

  • In this role, you will:

    • Collaborate with product, design, and business teams to identify where AI can deliver immediate user value (e.g., financial insights, sustainability compliance checks, farm-specific recommendations).

    • Drive the long-term technical direction for AI-enabled features across our platform, from computer vision to data parsing to intelligent recommendations.

    • Define technical specs for features and target dates, ensuring alignment between product and engineering teams.

    • Define architectural patterns for the platform, ensure scalability and reliability.

    • Provide technical leadership across teams, set engineering standards, mentor others, and raise the bar for the org.

    • Collaborate as needed with stakeholders to clarify goals and drive product development.

    • Contribute across the entire stack, from front-end to back-end, databases, and deployment.

    • Engage in code reviews and design discussions to raise team standards for lean, effective development.

  • Compensation $200,000 - $230,000

  • Fully remote with regular all-team retreats.

  • Excellent benefits including health insurance, coworking stipend, educational stipend, and 401K with full company match.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

In three months

  • You understand how our software fits together, have shipped multiple features across the platform, and gained confidence working within our codebases.

  • You’ve built trust with our team by bringing clarity to technical decision-making and shaping an AI roadmap.

In six months

  • You’re planning and executing features that align with both business and architectural goals.

  • You are establishing architectural guidelines and influencing the roadmap to reflect technical realities.

  • You’ve elevated our engineering culture by introducing tools, frameworks, and best practices for AI-native development.

  • You’re owning features end-to-end and contributing to others' projects.

In nine months

  • You’ve launched production-level AI workflows that save farmers time and unlock measurable financial outcomes.

  • You’re influencing technical strategy, introducing scalable practices, and raising org-wide engineering quality.

  • You are anticipating technical debt, proactively shaping the roadmap, and ensuring today’s solutions have a plan for scalability.

  • You’re a resource for others in key areas of our codebase.

  • You’re elevating the team’s performance through reviews, mentorship, and leadership, driving innovation in both process and product.

BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

We’re looking for a teammate who has the following experiences, tools, and skills (please note: if you don’t meet all of these qualities, we still encourage you to apply as we’re excited to consider applicants from a wide range of backgrounds).

  • You’ve successfully scaled startups from Seed to Series B in an engineering role

  • Depth in one area (e.g., backend systems, databases, or DevOps) paired with the ability to work across the full stack

  • You have hands-on experience or familiarity with some of the following technologies:

    • Frontend: React, Typescript, Next.js, Dart, Flutter

    • Backend: Node.js, Kotlin, Spring Boot

    • Cloud: AWS, GCP (Firestore, Cloud Functions)

    • DevOps: Service configuration, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and deployment automation

  • Bonus points for:

    • Strong expertise in backend systems and DevOps (especially if you can teach us a thing or two about deploying and monitoring AI services at scale)

    • Experience leading small, focused teams in delivering key features quickly

    • Ability to maintain code quality and raise team standards via reviews and design discussions

    • Experience integrating LLMs or CV models

    • Knowledge of OCR, text extraction, or computer vision pipelines

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • A close-knit, fully remote team with regular pairing sessions and opportunities for connection.

  • A high-autonomy role where you can take ownership of projects.

  • A chance to help shape the engineering team as we grow.

  • Collaboration with product, design, and business teams to build meaningful solutions.

  • A remote-first, flexible work environment.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
