What You’ll Do:

CoreWeave is the AI Hyperscaler™, and the Cloud Experience organization owns the customer-facing interfaces to our platform: Console UI, REST/gRPC APIs, Infrastructure-as-Code, CLI, and SDKs. This team is responsible for delivering a unified, secure, scalable developer experience across products and services.

About the role:

CoreWeave is seeking a Principal Engineer for our API Platform, working across the engineering organization to define and evolve our public API platform and developer interfaces. We’re actively standardizing on a gRPC-first foundational interface (with generated REST) to accelerate delivery of SDKs, Terraform, and platform-wide consistency; the role will be a primary driver of this transition and its long-term technical direction.

In this role, you will:

  • Deliver a cohesive, reliable CoreWeave Cloud API that becomes the foundation for all developer touchpoints (Console, SDKs, CLI, IaC), enabling customers to self-serve provisioning and operations at scale.
  • Deliver an internal API Governance strategy to drive consistency and standardization of our public interfaces, and to increase velocity of internal stakeholders.
  • Drive our IaC-first strategy and enable day-one Terraform support for new GA products, accelerating time-to-first-production for customers and reducing operational load.
  • Establish and meet API reliability goals and partner with production engineering on SLIs/SLOs, observability, and incident response maturity.
  • Shape identity and access management evolution toward unified, fine-grained access policies across products, ensuring consistent authorization patterns and developer experience.
Who You Are:
  • 10+ years of experience building and operating public APIs and backend services in production, including ownership of reliability and security outcomes.
  • Proficiency in Go and experience with Terraform, protobuf/gRPC and REST design.
  • Strong understanding of cloud computing infrastructure using Kubernetes, scalable architectures, and automation.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills; track record of delivering cross-organizational initiatives as the technical lead
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize problem statements from interactions with customers and design solutions given ambiguous requirements.
  • Solid grounding in CI/CD, testing strategies, and safe rollout/deprecation practices for API changes.
  • Prior contributions to Terraform providers or similar IaC tooling, including registry distribution, versioning, and upgrade guidance.
  • Strong observability skills (metrics, logs, tracing) and practical experience defining API SLIs/SLOs.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Kubernetes control-plane/API design patterns and CRD ergonomics; ability to bridge KRM and gRPC/REST interfaces where appropriate.
  • Experience with alternative IaC models such as Crossplane and Pulumi.
  • Expertise with API gateways, rate limiting, multitenancy, and edge security at scale.
  • Understanding of authentication, authorization, and policy frameworks; proven ability to integrate IAM into API surfaces with consistent semantics.

Wondering if you’re a good fit? We believe in investing in our people, and value candidates who can bring their own diversified experiences to our teams – even if you aren't a 100% skill or experience match.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
