About the Position:
AGBO is seeking a skilled Previz Artist (all levels) to join our VFX/Animation team on a temporary basis. This artist will play a key role in the early visualization of cinematic moments, sequences, and action—working closely with directors, producers, and department leads to bring ambitious concepts to life in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This role is ideal for someone with a strong sense of cinematic language, storytelling, and technical proficiency in previz tools and workflows.

This is a preferred hybrid position in Los Angeles, CA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with directors, storyboard artists, and department heads to visualize sequences and scenes through 3D previz.
  • Translate scripts, storyboards, and rough concepts into dynamic and cinematic previz shots that define composition, pacing, and action.
  • Build previz assets including environments, props, and character rigs when needed.
  • Animate characters and cameras to establish tone, staging, and visual continuity across sequences.
  • Ensure previz supports technical planning, including VFX, stunt coordination, virtual production, and live-action integration.
  • Work efficiently within project timelines and adapt to evolving creative direction.
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure previz aligns with downstream production requirements.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 3+ years of experience in previz, cinematic layout, or related roles in film, television, games, or high-end commercials.
  • Strong proficiency in Maya and some experience with Unreal Engine.
  • Solid understanding of cinematic language—framing, lens choices, pacing, blocking, and editing.
  • Experience with stitching mocap clips into master scenes as well as taking a shot from start to finish in terms of camera, layout and animation.
  • Ability to create previz assets or modify existing assets as needed.
  • Familiarity with real-time workflows and virtual production is a plus.
  • Ability to take direction and iterate quickly while maintaining quality and clarity.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Working knowledge of Nuke and After Effects is a plus.

Additional Information:

  • This is a temporary position with the possibility of extension based on project needs.
  • Preference will be given to those who can work in Los Angeles, CA.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for sponsorship.
  • Please submit a portfolio or demo reel for consideration.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
