JOB SUMMARY:

Robinson Helicopter Company is hiring a hands-on Platform Engineer to own the technical foundations connecting our digital customer experiences to our enterprise systems and data.

This is a broad, high-ownership role. You will move between application code, Azure services, CI/CD pipelines, APIs, databases, and business system integrations; and you will be the person who owns them. We are building internal capability, not managing vendors, so you will inherit a real environment and make it more secure, more automated, and better documented than you found it.

Robinson has built helicopters in Torrance since 1973. Our aircraft fly in more than 60 countries. The systems you own here connect directly to how customers find us, configure aircraft, order parts, and get supported.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Own the web platform. Engineer and operate our public web platforms (Next.js frontend and Strapi headless CMS) across development, staging, and production. Build and support APIs, content workflows, forms, search, and configurator experiences.

Run the Azure environment. Operate and improve App Service, Front Door and WAF, Container Registry, Blob Storage, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Application Insights. Own monitoring, alerting, incident response, root cause analysis, and production readiness.

Automate delivery. Build reliable CI/CD with GitHub Actions and Docker, including environment configuration, automated testing, approval gates, and controlled releases. Replace manual steps with auditable, version-controlled ones.

Connect the business. Design and support integrations across web, cloud, ecommerce, and enterprise systems using APIs, webhooks, queues, and secure service identities, including Epicor Kinetic ERP and Shopify.

Secure and govern it. Own DNS, domains, certificates, redirects, and registrar access alongside IT security. Apply least privilege, secrets management, vulnerability remediation, and access reviews. Keep documentation and runbooks current and usable.

Partner across the company. Work directly with Marketing, Customer Service, Engineering, and business application owners to turn requirements into secure, scalable solutions.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 6+ years in platform engineering, DevOps, cloud engineering, software engineering, or systems integration supporting production systems
  • Hands-on Microsoft Azure experience across compute, networking, storage, identity, security, monitoring, and managed databases
  • Git, GitHub Actions or comparable CI/CD tooling, Docker, and multi-environment release management
  • Working development experience in JavaScript or TypeScript and Node.js
  • REST and/or GraphQL APIs, webhooks, authentication, and secrets handling
  • Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases
  • Ability to troubleshoot across application, cloud, network, database, security, and third-party boundaries
  • Clear written and verbal communication with non-technical stakeholders
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • React and Next.js; Strapi or another headless CMS
  • PostgreSQL specifically; Redis caching
  • Shopify development or platform integration (GraphQL Admin API, webhooks, product/order/inventory sync)
  • ERP integration experience, especially Epicor
  • Infrastructure as Code with Terraform or Bicep; scripting in PowerShell, Bash, or Python
  • Observability with Application Insights or Sentry; end-to-end testing with Cypress
  • Domain, DNS, TLS, CDN, and web application security administration
  • AI-enabled application experience (Azure OpenAI, Microsoft Foundry, OpenAI APIs, agents)
  • Manufacturing or aerospace background, or another environment where reliability and change control matter

Why This Role

You will have primary ownership of critical technical capabilities rather than a slice of someone else’s system. The scope is genuinely broad — frontend through cloud infrastructure through enterprise integration — which suits an engineer who would rather go wide and own outcomes than go narrow and own a component.

You will also see your work fly. This is a manufacturer with a physical product and a real customer base, not an abstraction.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary range: $130,000 – $155,000 annually.

Placement within the range depends on experience, skills, and qualifications. Robinson offers medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) with company match, paid time off, and paid holidays.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
