DEPARTMENT SUMMARY Manager, Pharmacy Services Pharmacy Director, Pharmacy 100% Full-Time Exempt Non-Union The Health Services Department is one of the nation’s largest providers of LGBTQ-specialized primary care and related services, including primary care, mental health, psychiatry, sexual health, pharmacy, case management, nutrition, clinical research, housing services, and a food pantry. The department operates as a Federally Qualified Health Center specializing in serving LGBTQ people. 

JOB SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Director, Pharmacy Services, the Pharmacist Manager is responsible for all compliance-related aspects of the pharmacy and direct oversight of the pharmacists. This position serves as the Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) to the Board of Pharmacy and acts as a liaison between the pharmacy and other clinical programs. The Pharmacist Manager collaborates with the Associate Director of Pharmacy Operations to ensure smooth daily pharmacy operations, develop and implement workflow changes, and perform pharmacist duties as needed. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

Operations Management 

• Oversee all aspects of daily pharmacy operations with the Pharmacy Operations Manager under the supervision of the Associate Director of Pharmacy Operations. 

• Ensure timely completion of medication orders and operational efficiency. • Coordinate with the Associate Director of Pharmacy Operations on workflow, space, and system needs. 

• Assist with implementing new pharmacy policies, processes, and quality improvements. 

• Manage pharmacy-related contracts in collaboration with leadership. 

• Incorporate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) principles into all aspects of pharmacy practice. 

QA, Improvement, and Compliance 

• Develop and maintain pharmacy Quality Assurance (QA) program including medication error reports and quarterly review meetings. 

• Coordinate new policy and quality improvement initiatives with the Director of Pharmacy Services. 

• Verify correct use of 340b inventory and billing code modifiers and address audit findings with Pharmacy Financial Coordinators. 

• Serve as Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) for the California State Board of Pharmacy, ensuring compliance with state and federal pharmacy laws and regulations. 

• Maintain all pharmacy records as required by state and federal law. 

• Manage controlled substance inventory including ordering, reconciling reports, biennial inventory counts, and perpetual inventory maintenance.

 • Monitor pharmacy regulatory issues and recommend compliance actions. 

Management Responsibilities 

• Ensure pharmacists meet continuing education requirements and receive training in clinical services, cultural competency, medication safety, and laws and regulations. 

• Oversee pharmacist education programs including supervision of pharmacy residents, interns, and students. 

• Incorporate DEI principles into all aspects of pharmacy practice.

 • Develop and monitor pharmacy budgets and analyze financial trends to meet targets. 

• Supervise pharmacists including scheduling, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and team building. 

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

• Participate in Medication Therapy Management Program activities with the Clinical Pharmacist. 

• Complete annual recertifications, license updates, and database management as required by law and contracts. 

• Perform all functions of a staff pharmacist as needed. 

• Serve as the initial contact for resolving patient issues alongside the Pharmacy Operations Manager. 

• Participate in and represent pharmacy in Health Services meetings, staff meetings, and planning sessions. 

• Act as liaison between the pharmacy and other departments. 

• Perform other duties as assigned. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Supervises 12-15 pharmacists including scheduling, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and team building.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

• Minimum three years of pharmacy experience. 

• PharmD from an accredited college of pharmacy. 

• Proficiency with pharmacy software, word processing, database operations, spreadsheets, and other systems. 

• Background in HIV/AIDS and related pharmacology. 

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations including various races, ethnicities, ages, gender identities, and sexual orientations in a multicultural environment. 

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with high attention to detail. 

• Current unrestricted licensure to practice pharmacy in the State of California. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

• Two years of management experience. 

• Knowledge of PioneerRx pharmacy system. 

• Bilingual skills (English/Spanish). 

• Pharmacy in Charge (PIC) experience highly preferred. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

• Prolonged sitting and standing during pharmacy operations. 

• Extensive computer use for record keeping, inventory management, and communication. 

• Effective verbal and written communication skills. 

• Ability to handle pharmacy inventory and supplies as required.

 • Occasional mobility within clinical and office environments. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT / SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS 

• Work primarily in an office and clinical pharmacy environment. 

• Collaboration with cross-functional teams within Health Services. 

• Exposure to a fast-paced healthcare setting with confidentiality requirements. 

• Occasional schedule variability including evenings and weekends as needed.
