ClassDojo's goal is to give every child on Earth an education they love.

We started by building a powerful network for communication. ClassDojo’s flagship app is the #1 communication app connecting K-12 teachers, children, and families globally. Teachers use it to share what’s happening throughout the day through photos, videos, and messages that make parents feel like they’re there. It’s actively used in over 95% of US schools, reaching over 45 million children in 180 countries, with a team of just around 200 people. We are now beginning to use this network to give kids the best learning experiences in the world, far beyond those a standard school can provide.

We hire for talent density. Our team comprises the most talented, entrepreneurial, and innovative teammates from around the world, with experience in education and large scale consumer internet companies, including Instagram, Netflix, Dropbox, Stripe, Uber, Y Combinator, and more. We’re building a company where the most talented people want to work. We believe you’ll do the best work of your life here—and you’ll pioneer the future of education, too.

What you’ll do:

As a People Operations Manager, you will play a pivotal role in building and growing the championship team that will enable us to achieve our ambitious mission here at ClassDojo. You’ll develop and own critical people processes across the employee lifecycle and act as a strategic partner to cross-functional stakeholders. Your work will shape how employees experience key moments—ensuring clarity, consistency, and care—while maintaining rigorous HR compliance and operational excellence. You’ll also serve as the internal subject matter expert on HR compliance and operations, guiding both daily execution and forward-looking initiatives.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Process Creation and Optimization: Design and implement simple, scalable HR processes and workflows that improve efficiency, usability, and consistency across the employee lifecycle.
  • Cross-Functional Projects: Act as the People Ops SME on projects and programs like EOR strategy, Rippling data integrity, and SOC2 readiness—bringing both strategic input and operational rigor.Employee Lifecycle Management: Manage day to day employee lifecycle operations,  benefits administration, immigration, and EOR support.
  • HR Compliance: Conduct internal HR audits and proactively identify risks; develop and implement policies and procedures that comply with relevant laws and regulations and align with best practices.
  • Systems & Tools: Oversee day-to-day administration of HR systems and employee files;  ensure clean, organized, and accessible data and documentation storage.

You will be a match if:

  • You have 5+ years experience in HR with a strong foundation in operations and compliance
  • You enjoy designing and improving processes that are simple, efficient, and user-friendly, with an emphasis on AI and automation.
  • You have strong project management skills, with the ability to lead and manage multiple cross functional projects simultaneously and navigate around ambiguities autonomously.
  • You have led HR compliance audits and have experience developing and implementing HR policies and procedures that comply with relevant laws and regulations.
  • You have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and make data-informed decisions.
  • You enjoy being both strategic and hands-on, thriving in roles where you build and execute.

You might be a good match if:

  • You have experience in high-growth, tech start-up environments
  • You have worked in early or mid-stage startups and thrive in ambiguous, fast-changing settings.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
