The Role

This Payroll Tax Specialist role focuses on maintaining data integrity and compliance across multi-state and international (US/Canada) jurisdictions using ADP Workforce Now, Equity Edge, and Workday. You will move beyond basic data entry to act as a system auditor, leveraging advanced Excel mastery to build automated reconciliation templates and streamline tax processes. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver who can navigate complex tax reciprocity and own audit support to drive measurable process improvements.

What You’ll Do

  • Systems & Integration Audit: Act as the “data police” between Workday, Equity Edge, and ADP Workforce Now to ensure employee data changes, equity vesting, and mid-period updates sync perfectly, catching timing errors before they impact payroll.
  • Process Automation: Proactively improve processes to replace manual tasks and bypass current system limitations.
  • Multi-National Tax Compliance: Oversee complex tax jurisdictions and profile set ups for 70+ local and multi-state jurisdictions across the US and Canada.
  • Audit & Notice Management: Proactively identify “timing differences” and resolve tax agency notices and support year-end filings by providing clean, audited data that ensures 100% integrity

Requirements

  • 5+ years in complex Payroll Tax Administration
  • Experience in ADP Workforce Now, and Workday HRIS; must understand how data flows between HRIS and Payroll
  • Experience in MS Excel to reconcile large, disparate datasets
  • Solid understanding of US federal, state, and local tax reciprocity
  • Experience with automating and improving payroll processes

Nice to Have

  • Experience monitoring employee’s data to identify new state or local tax obligations to avoid compliance issues
  • Build proactive, easy-to-understand guidance to support employees with common questions related to multi-state withholding and equity tax impacts, driving clarity and self-service success

Perks & Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance
  • Flexible PTO and company paid holidays
  • Retirement programs
  • 1% charitable giving program

Compensation

  • Base pay: $60,000 - $80,000
  • The salary range listed here has been provided to comply with local regulations and represents a potential base salary range for this role. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range above or below, depending on experience and location. We look at compensation for each individual and base our offer on your unique qualifications, experience, and expected contributions. This position may also be eligible for other types of compensation in addition to base salary, such as variable bonus and/or stock bonus.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
