About the Role

The Payroll Specialist will play a key role in supporting payroll processing for Charlie Health’s growing team of employees and contractors across the United States. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, this role is responsible for ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant payroll runs, supporting audits, and assisting with payroll system maintenance and improvements.  identify and register new tax jurisdictions and update UKG with information. Resolve employee pay issues. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to resolve payroll issues.

Responsibilities

  • Process biweekly payroll runs and off-cycle payments for employees and independent contractors
  • Review and validate timesheets, deductions, and tax information to ensure accurate pay
  • Assist with payroll system (UKG Pro and Workforce Management) updates, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Maintain payroll records in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner
  • Assist with wage garnishments, benefit and 401(k) deductions, and related reconciliations
  • Support regular audits of payroll data, controls, and processes
  • Collaborate with internal teams including People Operations, Finance, and IT to ensure accuracy and alignment across systems
  • Assist with payroll system updates, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation of payroll processes
  • Proactively contribute to process improvement initiatives to enhance payroll efficiency and service delivery

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of payroll experience in a multi-state, distributed workforce environment and a deep knowledge of payroll tax
  • Familiarity with payroll compliance regulations including wage and hour laws, garnishments, and tax withholdings
  • Hands-on experience using UKG Pro and UKG Workforce Management (or similar systems) preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field preferred; relevant certifications (e.g., FPC, CPP) are a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and adapting to change

The total target base compensation for this role will be between $62,000 and $81,000 per year at the commencement of employment. In addition to base compensation, this role offers a target performance-based bonus. The target total cash compensation range, including potential bonus, will be between $68,000 and $89,000 per year. Please note, pay will be determined on an individualized basis and will be impacted by location, experience, expertise, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations. Further, cash compensation is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may include stock options and other Charlie Health-sponsored benefits.#LI-Remote
