Job Summary

We are looking for a Payroll Specialist who has hands-on experience processing payroll in Workday for a long term, temporary position to support our Enterprise Workday implementation.
The qualified candidate will have 2+ years of experience processing full-cycle payroll, from pre-payroll (importing from time & attendance platform) through payroll processing, to post-payroll (tax remittance and reporting). For this temporary position, you MUST have experience processing payroll in Workday.

The Payroll Specialist provides front line response and consultation to associates and leadership related to Multi-State Payroll Processing and Time Keeping for greater than 5,000 associates. Detailed knowledge of CHOC policies and understanding of California wage and hour laws is required. Must understand Federal, state and local taxation. The Payroll Specialist will have a variety of routine and non-routine payroll functions including aspects of processing, reviewing, analyzing and performing payroll functions with full accountability. Which includes: Payroll system support and maintenance of Workday and Kronos (UKG) Time and Attendance; as well as user training and support. Must ensure timely and accurate Bi-weekly payroll processing as well as On-Demand payments for all Hospital and related entities. Processing of wage orders in Workday, prepare stop payments, voids and check reversals. Occasional auditing and reporting analysis as requested by leaders. The Payroll Specialist role provides excellent customer service to internal and external customers and maintains the confidentiality of all Payroll and HR data. The ideal candidate will have experience processing payroll within ADP Smart Compliance; Workday and Kronos (UKG) Dimensions.

Pay Range

Minimum $26.73 Midpoint $35.41 Maximum $44.10

Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, as well as position requirements.

Experience

* Required: Minimum two (2) years of experience in payroll processing and associated activities.

* Preferred: Two (2) to four (4) years of payroll experience processing payroll. Prior experience with Kronos time and attendance and Workday Payroll Software.

Education

* Required: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience will be considered.

Training

* Required: Able to train others using CHOC's internal Payroll and Time and Attendance Systems; which will include leading group training sessions as well as provide individual support and training.

Specialized Skills

* Required: Process bi-weekly multi-state payroll from beginning to end, including data loads for variable pay. Ensure all employee time records are accurate and properly approved prior to processing payroll. Process adjustments, wage garnishments, manual check processing, and resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information. Collaborate with HR and finance departments to ensure seamless integration of payroll data with other company systems. Create, maintain and implement training materials; conduct training sessions with all levels throughout the organization related to time and attendance editing and reporting. Interacting with all employees at all levels and exhibiting superior customer service skills. Assist with testing, audits, report production and reconciliations as needed. Responds to unemployment insurance requests, child support orders, garnishments as well as state and federal withholding orders. Strong knowledge of rules and regulations of California Wage and Hour Laws. Ability to prioritize, multitask and work under time constraints. Must exercise confidentiality, tact, diplomacy and independent judgment in the performance of duties with a high level of honesty and integrity. Ability to excel in a fast paced, high-volume operation with tight deadlines, managing multiple projects and high customer service expectations. Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint. Strong organizational, interpersonal and outstanding communications skills both verbal and written. Display decision making, problem solving, and critical thinking ability. Ability to deal tactfully with challenging customers, pay attention to detail, and follow through on all projects and tasks. Ability to set goals and judge results in accordance with the highest standards; care with sensitivity and respect; advance care through development of new ideas and technology; promote teamwork to achieve CHOC's mission; and understand and exceed customer expectations.
