About Voltus

Voltus is the leading platform connecting distributed energy resources to electricity markets, delivering less expensive, more reliable, and more sustainable electricity. Our commercial and industrial customers, along with our residential and grid services partners, generate revenue by allowing Voltus to maximize the value of their flexible load, distributed generation, energy storage, energy efficiency, and electric vehicle resources in these markets. Our product, developed to help solve the greatest problem of our time, the climate crisis, is tested and proven, and we have moved from startup to significant (and rapid) growth stage. At Voltus, we live by the mantra “doing well by doing good,” and that includes actively doing our best by our team, clients, and partners.

The Role

Voltus is seeking a Partnerships Sales Director to grow our battery energy storage business through partnerships with battery developers and the companies that install and deploy battery projects.

Interest from partners who want to work with Voltus is growing quickly, and this role exists to turn that interest into signed deals. You will make the case that Voltus is the best monetization and optimization partner for partner's projects, while building partnership structures that deliver the most value for our customers, our partners and for Voltus.

This is a quota-carrying sales seat. We’re looking for someone who is energized by hitting a number, drives deals forward, and stays accountable for getting partners from first conversation to signed agreement. You are always looking for ways to speed up the sales cycle, from the first partner conversation through the definitive agreement, and you keep momentum when deals get complex or conditions change.

This is a remote role. Candidates must be based in the United States or Canada.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own partner relationships and projects from initial interest through diligence, definitive agreement, and ongoing management

  • Evaluate partners and design the ideal partnership framework with each partner

  • Sell battery developers and deployment partners on Voltus as the best partner to maximize the value of their projects and sign partner-originated battery deals for Voltus to optimize.

  • Work cross-functionally and ensure partners are executing on Voltus battery deals, moving deals through diligence to signature.

  • Negotiate and structure commercial agreements that create revenue for partners, customers, and Voltus.

  • Carry a sales quota and own the pace of every deal, finding ways to shorten the sales cycle.

Desired Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full cycle sales experience.

  • Experience in battery energy storage, either on the demand response side or on the development and deployment side, with a clear understanding of how battery projects get built and who the partners are.

  • A track record of hitting a sales target and closing deals, with clear examples of the size and pace of deals you’ve closed in dollars, megawatts, megawatt hours, or systems installed.

  • A habit of finding ways to shorten the sales cycle, with examples of how you’ve moved deals faster without losing diligence.

  • Experience navigating partnerships through complex negotiations, including letters of intent and definitive agreements.

  • Working knowledge of the electric grid and wholesale electricity markets.

  • Grit and resourcefulness in a fast-moving environment.

  • College degree (MBA preferred).

Please note that at this time, we do not sponsor visas or transfers for new hires. Voltus teammates need to be authorized to work from their home location (in the US or Canada, unless otherwise indicated on the role description).

Voltus is an equal opportunity employer. We do not tolerate discrimination of any kind and are committed to providing equal employment opportunities regardless of your gender identity, race, nationality, religion, age, sexual orientation, veteran status, disability status, or marital status.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
