About the Role:

We are seeking a detail-oriented Paralegal to support our General Counsel (GC) with legal research, contract review, litigation management, and probate matters. In this role, you will analyze and summarize agreements and track key documents. You will help manage disputes by maintaining calendars, assisting with discovery, and liaising with internal stakeholders and outside counsel. The ideal candidate is highly organized, exercises sound judgment, has probate experience, and communicates clearly in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

Legal Research, Documentation, and Projects:

  • Performs legal research and analysis on various legal issues and regulatory matters.
  • Assist with researching and answering legal and compliance help desk questions.
  • Prepare legal correspondence, including but not limited to discovery, garnishments, subpoenas, and deposition notices.
  • Handle special projects as assigned by the GC.

Contract Reviews:

  • Draft, review, and revise contracts using Track Changes and the Compare function in MS Word.
  • Manage and maintain contract databases and legal files.

Legal Counsel and Strategy:

  • Assist the GC in providing counsel, guidance, and strategy regarding legal and regulatory matters or issues involving the credit union.
  • This includes providing legal services to the credit union and managing and monitoring the quality and efficiency of outsourcing to external law firms and attorneys.

Compliance and Corporate Governance:

  • Assist the GC to ensure that the policies, procedures, and forms of the credit union in ensuring that the credit union's policies, procedures, and forms comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and credit union policy.
  • Provide legal guidance to staff on operational matters, including but not limited to employment law matters, power of attorney, and deceased member accounts.
  • Remain informed of legal and regulatory changes and developments affecting the credit union industry and financial services.

Board of Directors and Governance:

  • Manages governance matters, ensuring compliance with governance policies and procedures.
  • Maintain an inventory of legal matters and provide related updates to the Board of Directors and the management team.

Other Duties:

  • Adhere to all Connexus Credit Union policies and procedures, which include security compliance and following guidelines intended to limit risk exposure losses.
  • Participates in department and/or organizational projects as directed.
  • Performs other tasks or functions as required, requested, necessary or prudent from time to time.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all member and credit union information and data.
  • Comply with all Federal Regulations as they pertain to your job duties, including BSA.

Position Requirements:

  • This position is Remote.
  • Associate’s Degree, or commensurate experience is Required.
  • 5+ years of legal-related experience in a financial institution, government agency, or law firm is Required.
  • Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Adobe is Required.
  • Paralegal Certificate preferred.
