The 1000heads team is a proud, powerful collective of social media obsessives focused on creating transformational social-first work for our clients. We are looking for a Director, Paid Content Strategy to lead and grow our paid offering across the US.

This is not a traditional paid media role. We are looking for someone who understands paid deeply, but thinks first about content, audiences and creative opportunity. You will help our clients understand how paid can amplify and enhance their broader social strategies, connect paid and organic activity, unlock new creative formats and make the most of emerging platform capabilities.

The ideal candidate combines a strong strategy background with hands-on paid social expertise. You will be equally comfortable developing a senior-level paid and content strategy, partnering with Creative on how an idea comes to life across placements, and getting into platforms to build, optimize and evaluate campaigns yourself.

This will initially be a highly autonomous role, so we are looking for someone entrepreneurial and ambitious who is excited to shape the future of the capability. You will work closely with our Strategy, Creative, Community, Relationships and Insights teams to identify new ways paid can strengthen our social-first work and create new opportunities for our clients and the agency.

Requirements
  • 7+ years of experience across paid media, social strategy, content strategy or integrated marketing, ideally within an agency environment
  • Deep expertise in paid social strategy and activation across major social platforms
  • Strong strategic thinking with the ability to connect audience, content, creative, media and business objectives
  • Hands-on experience managing paid campaigns and confidence operating directly within paid platforms
  • Strong understanding of social-first creative and how creative effectiveness changes by platform, placement, audience and format
  • Passion for emerging platform capabilities, innovative ad formats and experimentation
  • Ability to move comfortably between high-level strategic thinking and hands-on execution
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to turn performance data into actionable content and creative recommendations
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and excitement about building a capability rather than inheriting an established paid media department
  • Ability to work independently while building strong relationships across multiple specialist teams
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, including the ability to make complex media thinking clear and compelling for clients
  • Culturally connected, you love all things social and are genuinely curious about where platforms, content and consumer behavior are heading

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead paid and content strategy across client work, connecting media thinking with broader social, creative and audience strategies
  • Develop integrated approaches across paid and organic social, identifying where paid can extend, amplify or unlock stronger creative ideas
  • Translate business, audience and campaign objectives into clear paid strategies, channel approaches, investment recommendations and activation plans
  • Partner closely with Creative and Strategy teams to ensure ideas are designed for the environments and formats in which they will run
  • Stay relentlessly curious about emerging paid social products, ad units, platform features and creative opportunities, proactively bringing new ideas to clients and internal teams
  • Identify opportunities beyond traditional paid social where relevant, exploring new formats, platforms and media environments that can expand the creative potential of our work
  • Lead hands-on campaign execution across paid social platforms, including campaign setup, trafficking, optimization and ongoing management
  • Develop audience, targeting, testing and optimization approaches that improve both creative and media effectiveness
  • Partner with Insights and Strategy teams to develop meaningful measurement frameworks that go beyond traditional media metrics and connect paid activity to broader brand and social outcomes
  • Analyze campaign performance and translate data into clear creative, content and investment recommendations
  • Work across Community, Creative, Relationships and Strategy to identify opportunities to turn organic performance, community behavior and cultural insights into paid opportunities
  • Support pitches, new business and existing client growth by developing compelling paid and integrated content strategies
  • Build trusted relationships with platform and media partners, keeping 1000heads at the forefront of new products, betas and innovation opportunities
  • Help define and grow the 1000heads paid capability, identifying new products, services, partnerships and ways of working that differentiate us from traditional paid media agencies
  • Establish best practices, tools and processes that allow the capability to scale over time

Benefits
  • Medical, dental, vision, and more!
  • 401k & Roth retirement investment options with employer match
  • Gym and professional development stipends
  • Culture Club with monthly activities like sports, games and happy hours
  • DEI Council and Employee Resource Groups
  • Commute and parking benefits
  • Wellness program that focuses on mental, physical and financial employee wellness
  • And much more!

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
