THE ROLE


This role would act to support the QA & Merchandising teams with product onboarding and ongoing compliance activities to ensure all labels, website, and marketing material statements are adequately verified, audited, and compliant with all regulatory requirements and Thrive Market (TM) standards. This role will be a key member of the new product onboarding process and will support the Merchandising team as the technical resource to get products to market. Requires a background in Food Science or Nutrition with knowledge and experience in FDA and USDA labeling laws and regulatory requirements.


As the QA Nutrition & Regulatory Manager/Senior Manager, they will serve as the technical reviewer of vendor document and specification submissions to approve nutrition facts panels, ingredient specifications, certifications to support claims, allergen statements, etc for all product categories to include food and non-food. This role would be responsible for completing the review of the nutrition and regulatory sections of the Thrive Market Brand (TMB) compliance spec document for all TMB products and ensuring the applicable sections of the design brief and label artwork is accurate and adequately verified by supporting documents. They would serve as technical support to Product Innovators, Category Managers, MS, Legal and other departments as required as it relates to any label and regulatory compliance issues and queries. They will be responsible for ongoing maintenance of vendor documents and certification as they relate to continued verification of label & regulatory compliance and any other program development support and administration. This role would be a power user and key contributor to configuration, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvements in the newly acquired vendor onboarding and management system (FoodLogiQ).

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supporting Product Innovators, Brand Managers and Category Managers in product development and onboarding activities
  • Collaborates cross-functionally with internal and external teams to establish priorities and maintain focus on improving time-to-market for product-related projects
  • Reviews ingredient, nutrition labeling and regulatory information for compliance with TMB values and Federal labeling and policy regulations (FDA, USDA) and other regulatory entities (organic certifiers, Kosher, etc.)
  • Conducts technical reviews of product specifications, nutrition facts, ingredient and allergen statements, briefs and packaging artwork to ensure compliance with federal regulations and TMB labeling claims and values
  • Ongoing development of requirements and review of submissions required to verify both TMB and branded products comply with all assigned TM values
  • Provides recommendations on labeling issues (based on scientific, technical literature, and policy reviews)
  • Identifies regulatory issues, provides resolution and offers suggestions when working on new product labels or product reformulations
  • Acts as the technical liaison and support for the PI’s with vendors as it relates to product labels and nutrition information
  • Works with TM QA to address issues affecting product labeling
  • Works with TM Design and Brand Manager team to address issues affecting product labeling
  • Remains current on Food Law, Nutrition Labeling Regulations, and nutrition trends and communicates/escalates and changes as applicable
  • Supports the Customer Relations team in responding to technical nutrition and science based customer and product inquiries
  • Coordinates and Manages collection and expiration tracking of vendor certifications and other pertinent documents needed for ongoing verification of label compliance
  • Assists in Vendor Management system configuration, maintenance and ongoing projects to streamline and continuously improve the onboarding process as it relates to information collection, review and approval of product information and label compliance
  • Identifies process improvement opportunities, implements efficiencies as appropriate

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science Degree or greater in Nutrition, Food Technology or Food Science, Registered Dietitian (RD)/RD-eligible or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience; Registered Dietitian or Masters preferred
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the food industry with USDA/FDA nutrition labeling regulatory compliance regulations, ingredient specifications, and nutrition database programs (ESHA Genesis preferred)
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to prioritize multiple priorities and strong attention to detail
  • Outstanding problem solving and advanced computer skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with a strong emphasis in collaboration with all levels of the company, vendors and customers
  • Ability to identify continuous improvement opportunities and effectively manage and implement improvements in processes while considering all stakeholders and business impacts
