Job Summary
Physical Sciences Laboratories (PSL)has more than 100 specialized laboratories used to test, analyze, and troubleshoot virtually every aspect of rocket and satellite system design, development, construction, deployment, and operation. The diverse expertise of the laboratories' technical staff allows PSL to stay abreast of new technological developments and program support issues associated with rapidly evolving space systems.
We are looking for a leader for the Imaging Spectroscopy Department (ISD) with proven organizational and project leadership and technical success. This is a critical management position that is both inward and outward focused: develop the staffing and personal and organizational relationships to insure ISD provides critical support to our customers, and to have deep understanding of customer missions and a vision for tomorrow so that ISD can be a critical partner in making those missions successful. This is a full-time position based in El Segundo, CA.
What You'll Be Doing
- You will be responsible for developing and maintaining a new and agile department strategy that grows PSL's hyperspectral collection, research, and mission utility for a wide range of US government customers
- You will be the corporate focal point for hyperspectral work with efforts that include outreach to relevant stakeholders, assessments of Aerospace capabilities, and development of integrated product teams that implement new hyperspectral initiatives
- S/he will partner with PSL leadership on effective communication of department status, strategies, and successes
- Focus on the health of the department and the health and viability of the hyperspectral field within Aerospace
- S/he will be a mentor for technical and programmatic leadership inside and outside the organizational boundaries
What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in a physical science that is technically related to hyperspectral remote sensing field or equivalent
- Typically (12) or more years of applicable professional or educational engineering/scientific experience is required
- Experience with hyperspectral sensors, technologies, customer applications, and data processing techniques
- Experience with project leadership and demonstrated ability to initiate and lead team efforts
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to influence a technical organization
- Strong written and oral communications skills
- Willingness to occasionally travel (primarily domestic travel) and to work off-business hours to support customer needs, approximately 20% (as required)
- This position requires a Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain SCI access, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
