About ZURU

ZURU is a reimagination company. We look for categories that have stood still, then we build next-generation products and brands that set the new standard. ZURU Toys is reimagining play. ZURU Edge is reinventing everyday consumer brands. Rhodes Pet Science is reimagining pet science. ZURU Tech is leading the next building revolution.

ZURU started in 2003 with two brothers from New Zealand, and we're still founder-owned and operated today. Since then we've become the world's second-biggest privately held toy company, and nearly half of all Gen Y and Gen Z households with kids in the US own a ZURU product. Today we're 5,000 people in 34 offices, selling into more than 150 markets, backed by over 100 acres of fully automated manufacturing. And we're only getting started.

Position Overview

We are looking for a commercially driven Omni Marketing Director to lead how ZURU shows up across the full retail ecosystem in North America - spanning both ZURU Toys and ZURU Edge. You will own shopper marketing and commercial retail media across our largest retail partners (Walmart, Target, Costco and key Grocery / Drug customers), building a connected omni experience from digital shelf to physical shelf.

This is a foundation role with real room to grow. It starts with shopper marketing and retail media leadership – but also will make a real impact on our broader brand strategy for the region, helping shape how we build our brand marketing capability across North America.

Position Impact

You will define how two multi-billion-dollar-trajectory portfolios convert shoppers across every touchpoint that sits between brand and transaction - retail media, in-store activation, digital shelf and shopper programs. You will lead the local Omni team and partner closely with our Global media team based in NZ, ensuring learnings and best practice flow between regions and both Toys and Edge businesses. With the US as ZURU's lead market, you will not just localise global strategy - you will help author it, feeding domestic shopper, customer and retail media insight upstream into global brand, media and NPD decisions.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Own the North America omni retail marketing strategy across Toys and Edge - one connected view of how we win from first impression to checkout, in-store and online.

  • Own commercial retail media across Walmart Connect, Roundel and retailer networks - strategy, budget allocation, retailer media relationships and performance accountability for how we drive customers to and convert within retailer ecosystems.

  • Partner closely with ZURU's global media planning leads on total channel strategy, brand media integration and annual retailer planning - this role owns the commercial retail media layer; global owns total media planning and buying.

  • Lead the shopper marketing function, with the Senior Shopper Marketing & Brand Activation Manager reporting into this role - setting standards for shopper strategy, display and activation excellence at shelf.

  • Connect Toys and Edge - build the mechanisms that move learnings, retailer insight and best practice across both portfolios.

  • Act as the senior marketing counterpart to sales leads and retailer merchant / media teams - integrating marketing into JBPs and top-to-top conversations.

  • Build the measurement discipline - incrementality, media effectiveness and display performance - so every dollar has an owner and a read.

  • Help shape domestic marketing capability - over time, contribute to building out the local marketing organisation and bring strong brand thinking closer to the US shopper and customer.

  • Feed US insight upstream - as lead market, influence global brand strategy, media frameworks and NPD with domestic shopper and retail reality.

Skills & Experience
  • 10+ years across shopper marketing, media / omni commerce and brand, ideally CPG, with meaningful time on Walmart and/or Target.

  • Deep retail media fluency - hands-on history with Walmart Connect, Roundel or equivalent retailer networks, and a clear POV on incrementality and measurement.

  • Proven people leadership and the ability to build function and capability, not just run programs.

  • Strong commercial acumen - comfortable owning budgets, making trade-offs and being accountable to a P&L view.

  • Brand instincts strong enough to grow with the role as its scope broadens over time.

  • Operates well across time zones and matrixed structures; builds followership without full control.

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Who thrives at ZURU

This isn't a 9-to-5. We move fast, think big and set goals most companies would call impossible, then go after them. The people who thrive here are entrepreneurs at heart. They own their work, chase bold ideas and never stop raising the bar.

At ZURU, you drive your career, and we give you the platform to take it as far as you can. There are opportunities here that you won’t find anywhere else, and you'll be surrounded by talented people who make things happen. We're a true meritocracy: we reward impact, not tenure.

How we work

Big ideas happen when great people work side by side, so we're office-first by design. Being together means faster collaboration, sharper decisions and stronger teams, and it's where the real learning happens. Some flexibility may be available depending on the role, location and business needs, but most roles are office-based.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
