Position Overview

USC Communications is seeking a Multimedia Producer to create, manage, and deliver high-quality video and multimedia content that supports strategic communications and engagement goals within University Advancement. This role blends creative vision and technical expertise to tell USC’s stories in compelling and innovative ways — from ideation through final production.

Application Requirements

The ideal candidate is an experienced, self-motivated producer who thrives in a collaborative environment, is passionate about storytelling, and brings a strong command of digital media tools and best practices. Key responsibilities include:

Compelling Multimedia Content

  • Develop and deliver high-quality videos and digital media that tell inspiring stories about USC’s mission and the impact of philanthropy.

  • Create, produce, direct, and edit high-impact projects that encourage donor engagement and support gift announcements, stewardship plans, and internal programs.

End-to-End Media Production

  • Produce 3 – 5+ video and/or photography projects per month with a strong eye for visual storytelling and attention to detail.

  • Oversee production timelines, budgets, and deliverables to ensure smooth, on-time execution.

Strategic Collaboration

  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop concepts, plans, scripts, storyboards, and final multimedia elements for a variety of digital channels.

  • Work closely with partners across USC Advancement, Communications, and academic units to support and translate university concepts into multimedia stories of impact.

This is a hybrid position under our current work arrangement plan, with the expectation of on-site presence in our offices in the USC Tower, located adjacent to campus in downtown Los Angeles.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combined education and experience).

  • 2 years of work experience

  • Comprehensive understanding of the technical and creative aspects of pre-production, production, and post-production processes.

  • Expert knowledge and skill as a DV, HD, and DSLR video camera operator, with experience shooting with multiple cameras and formats.

  • A valid California Driver’s License is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 years of professional experience in various forms of media, including video and still photography, video and audio editing, graphic arts and animation, scriptwriting, and interactive media.

  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Audition).

  • Strong storytelling, scriptwriting, and editing abilities.

  • Experience managing multiple multimedia projects simultaneously, including coordination with vendors and production teams.

  • Excellent organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills.

  • Passion for higher education, philanthropy, and mission-driven storytelling.

The successful candidate must also demonstrate, through ideas, words, and actions, a strong commitment to USC’s Unifying Values.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $34.33 – $44.27 hourly. When determining an offer, the University of Southern California considers factors such as the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate’s experience, education, training, key skills, internal peer alignment, applicable laws, contractual requirements, grant funding, and market conditions.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
