About HeyGen

At HeyGen, our mission is to make visual storytelling accessible to all. Over the last decade, visual content has become the preferred method of information creation, consumption, and retention. But the ability to create such content, in particular videos, continues to be costly and challenging to scale. Our ambition is to build technology that equips more people with the power to reach, captivate, and inspire audiences.

Position Summary

HeyGen is seeking a Mobile Engineer who is, at heart, a product builder. We are looking for a developer who obsesses over user experience and moves with exceptional speed by leveraging the latest AI tools.

In this role, you won't just implement specs; you will own the "feel" of the mobile product. We value candidates who have a strong sense of aesthetics and who view AI not just as a feature of our product, but as a core part of their own development workflow. You should be the type of engineer who can confidently say you move 3x faster today than you did 3-4 years ago because you have mastered AI-driven development.

You will build native experiences in iOS (Swift) or Android (Kotlin), working closely with design and product teams to bring HeyGen’s AI video capabilities to the palm of the user's hand.

Key Responsibilities
  • Product-First Engineering: You will own features from idea to interaction. You care deeply about the "why" and "how" of a feature, not just the code implementation.
  • UI/UX & Aesthetic Excellence: Collaborative closely with designers to achieve pixel-perfect implementation. You sweat the details—smooth animations, intuitive gestures, and responsiveness are non-negotiables for you.
  • AI-Accelerated Workflow: Utilize AI coding assistants and LLMs to drastically increase your output and velocity. You automate the mundane to focus on complex, creative problem solving.
  • Rapid Prototyping & Iteration: Move fast. You are comfortable shipping MVP features, gathering user feedback, and iterating quickly without getting bogged down in over-engineering.
  • Feature Ownership: Act as the technical owner for mobile features. While your focus is mobile, you are willing to cross boundaries to ensure the feature works flawlessly.
Qualifications
  • Native Mobile Mastery: Proficiency in Swift/SwiftUI (iOS) or Kotlin/Jetpack Compose (Android).
  • Strong Product & Design Sense: You have an eye for design. You understand interaction design principles and can make independent decisions to improve the UI/UX without needing a designer to hold your hand for every pixel.
  • High AI Fluency: You have integrated AI into your daily coding workflow. You leverage tools (e.g., Copilot, Cursor, ChatGPT) to write boilerplate, debug, and refactor at a speed that vastly outpaces traditional development methods.
  • Adaptability: You thrive in a startup environment where speed is a competitive advantage. You focus on shipping value to users, not academic code purity.

Preferred Qualifications (Strong Plus):

  • Backend Experience: Familiarity with backend technologies (Python, Node.js, Go) is a strong plus. We love engineers who aren't afraid to dive into the API layer to unblock themselves.
  • Multimedia Experience: Experience with video playback, audio processing, or real-time media on mobile.

  • Dynamic and inclusive work environment focused on innovation and creativity.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
