The Assembly Engineer will build and maintain cryogenic test systems, perform assembly and integration tasks, and support scientific equipment operations.
Based in Southern California with locations in Malibu, Calabasas, Westlake Village and Camarillo; HRL has been on the leading edge of technology, conducting pioneering research and advancing the state of the art.
The ideal candidate will join a multi-disciplinary engineering team that is responsible for building and maintaining advanced cryogenic test systems in support of HRL’s world-leading silicon quantum dot technologies.
Essential Duties:
Perform hands-on work on mechanical and electrical systems and components
Use hand tools to perform integration and assembly tasks in a laboratory environment
Set up and operate test equipment to verify, evaluate, and troubleshoot systems and components
Design fixturing, assembly aids, and support equipment
Oversee assembly of electronic PCBs, cables, and enclosures
Perform laboratory layout and facility design tasks
Review and conduct maintenance operations on scientific equipment and systems
Specify and procure parts and materials for systems and assemblies
Generate and utilize engineering documentation including: drawings, process instructions, block diagrams, netlists, schematic diagrams, and bills of material
Provide technical support and status reporting to scientists and engineering staff
Required Skills:
Understanding and application of basic electrical and mechanical engineering concepts
Ability to function safely in a laboratory environment performing assembly, integration, test, and troubleshooting tasks
Ability to follow formal and informal assembly and integration processes
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and ability to create charts and communicate clearly
Possess problem solving skills, good mechanical aptitude, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively with others and individually
Understanding of mechanical and electrical assembly techniques
Ability to read, understand, and generate engineering drawings, bills of material, schematic diagrams, assembly/process instructions, and engineering terminology
Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks) and/or Microsoft Visio is desired
Understanding of configuration management and inventory control is desired
Required Education:
BS degree in mechanical engineering, or closely related discipline.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to perform tasks safely in a lab environment and be able to occasionally work on ladders and/or scaffolding. Must be able to lift/push/pull 15-20 pounds consistently.
Special Requirements:
U.S. citizenship required. Must be able and willing to obtain and maintain US Government security clearance
Compensation:
The base salary range for this full-time position is $76,530 - $93,320 + bonus + benefits.
