About Nebius:

Nebius is leading a new era in cloud infrastructure for the global AI economy. We are building a full-stack AI cloud platform that supports developers and enterprises from data and model training through to production deployment, without the cost and complexity of building large in-house AI/ML infrastructure.

Built by engineers, for engineers. From large-scale GPU orchestration to inference optimization, we own the hard problems across compute, storage, networking and applied AI.

Listed on Nasdaq (NBIS) and headquartered in Amsterdam, we have a global footprint with R&D hubs across Europe, the UK, North America and Israel. Our team of 1,500+ includes hundreds of engineers with deep expertise across hardware, software and AI R&D.

The role

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll provide technical expertise for data center mechanical infrastructure, including cooling systems, HVAC, and critical equipment. You'll assess designs, capacity, reliability, and operational readiness to ensure data centers meet performance and scalability requirements. This is a build-phase role for someone who can independently evaluate complex systems while helping establish engineering standards and best practices for future deployments.

Travel: This position will require on-site presence at data centers.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead mechanical engineering evaluations for data center opportunities.
  • Assess cooling infrastructure, HVAC systems, and critical mechanical equipment.
  • Evaluate air-cooled, liquid-cooled, and hybrid cooling solutions for AI and hyperscale environments.
  • Provide mechanical feasibility recommendations and Go/No-Go project input.
  • Conduct technical due diligence on existing and new data center facilities.
  • Review cooling capacity, chiller plants, CRAH/CRAC systems, and liquid cooling readiness.
  • Evaluate equipment availability, vendor capabilities, lead times, and deployment risks.
  • Support cooling topology, mechanical design strategy, and equipment selection decisions.
  • Validate mechanical design assumptions, capacity requirements, and construction readiness
  • Partner with engineering teams, vendors, and consultants to ensure scalable, reliable data center solutions.

We expect you to have:

  • Experience supporting hyperscale data center or AI infrastructure development.
  • Experience with BMS controls integration and mechanical systems commissioning.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or similar professional certification.
  • Experience evaluating colocation or build-to-suit mechanical infrastructure in a due diligence capacity.
  • You're comfortable operating in ambiguity and building technical evaluation processes where none exist. You know how to independently assess complex mechanical infrastructure while helping define how future projects should be evaluated.
  • 8+ years of experience in data center mechanical engineering, MEP design, or mission-critical mechanical systems.
  • Experience with cooling topology design, liquid cooling systems, chiller plants, and CRAH/CRAC systems for high-density AI/hyperscale environments.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical capacity planning, equipment selection, and capex trade-offs in data center design.
  • Experience evaluating mechanical feasibility of sites or facilities prior to commercial commitment.
  • Excellent communication and executive presentation skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

It will be an added bonus if you have:

  • Experience supporting hyperscale data center or AI infrastructure development.
  • Experience with BMS controls integration and mechanical systems commissioning.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or similar professional certification.
  • Experience evaluating colocation or build-to-suit mechanical infrastructure in a due diligence capacity.

Key employee benefits:

  • Health insurance: 100% company-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and families.
  • 401(k) plan: up to 4% company match with immediate vesting.
  • Parental leave: 20 weeks paid for primary caregivers, 12 weeks for secondary caregivers.
  • Remote work reimbursement: up to $85/month for mobile and internet.
  • Disability & life insurance: company-paid short-term, long-term and life insurance coverage.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
