Position Description

We're looking for a Marketing Program Manager to develop and manage comprehensive marketing campaigns for key initiatives and programs within the organization. This person will work closely with the Marketing and Prize Operations teams to plan, develop, activate, and manage marketing activities to drive awareness and engagement with key audiences. This role serves as the primary marketing point of contact for Prize Operations teams and is a pivotal role for the success of XPRIZE competitions.

Responsibilities

  • Marketing Campaign Strategy: Partner with other marketing and Prize Operations teams to develop integrated campaigns that build awareness and engagement for prizes, programs, and the foundation. Define measurable objectives, target audience, and associated calls to action for each campaign; and provide regular reporting to stakeholders tracking progress and performance against objectives.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build and nurture relationships with internal and external stakeholders across programs, including prize/program teams, sponsors, partners, judges, and advisors. Navigate competing stakeholder priorities to ensure that marketing campaigns are aligned with prize objectives and business priorities. Provide marketing-specific prize and program updates to stakeholders.
  • Project Management: Leverage project management skills and the PM tool of record to ensure that event and campaign deliverables are completed in a timely manner, and all stakeholders are updated on progress, risks, and challenges.
  • Communications: In partnership with the Communications and Creative teams, contribute to the development of key messaging for programs and prize-related content, as well as communications resources for external stakeholders.
  • Events: In partnership with the Experiential team, contribute to the planning and execution of events to support campaign objectives. Develop marketing materials to support foundation, program, and prize milestone events. Collaborate with Prize Operations teams to develop materials to support XPRIZE presence at industry conferences and events.
  • Budgeting and Resource Management: Support the development and management of prize marketing budgets, including classifying actuals and tracking actuals against budget and forecast.
  • Marketing Technology: Leverage marketing-specific tools and technology to manage marketing campaigns and associated projects; measure campaign performance; develop and refine target audiences; and gather social media insights.
  • Trendspotting: Stay up-to-date on prize/program-related news and industry trends, proactively identifying opportunities to incorporate trends into active and upcoming campaigns.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of proven experience developing and executing comprehensive marketing strategies that unify messaging across a variety of channels
  • 4-year college or university degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in digital marketing tools and platforms
  • The ability to combine technical/scientific information with emotion to form a compelling message across multiple audiences
  • Experience in developing cross-channel marketing campaigns consisting of clear, measurable objectives, well-defined target audience(s), and associated calls to action
  • Experience monitoring campaign performance, gathering data insights, and preparing reports to evaluate campaign efficiency, proposing changes to optimize campaigns as needed

  • Experience with creating and managing budgets, including budget tracking and reporting
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and drive collaboration across teams to maximize impact and drive business results
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence without authority, manage competing priorities, address concerns, and work closely and collaboratively with colleagues and staff
  • Passion for the mission of XPRIZE and the work we are doing to build a better future
  • Having a growth mindset and a passion for continuous improvement is essential

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
